Meet Katt Shea of Katt Shea Acting Studio in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katt Shea.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Katt. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started out in the entertainment business as a writer-director (Poison Ivy, The Rage, Carrie 2) and I did quite a bit of acting as well. When an actor I’d hired got in trouble on the set, I would use the techniques I now use to teach actors how to book acting work. I use exercises that really free the actor up to do their best work. The exercises are amazingly effective and work no matter what the genre is. Currently, I teach an ongoing on-camera audition class specifically designed to help actors book TV and film roles.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Teaching has been a smooth road. Writing and directing is always incredibly challenging especially at the studio level. Writing movies is difficult because you are always getting conflicting notes until you are on set directing. Directing is intense because you can’t serve many masters and a lot of times that is demanded. I loved both writing and directing, but it is exhausting unless you are financing and producing everything yourself, then too it’s exhausting but in a totally different way. Working with actors as I do now have all the creativity of directing without pain!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Katt Shea Acting Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The actors I work with (many of them beginners) have an incredibly high booking rate and I’m very proud of that!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am traveling to Brazil for Fantaspoa, a well-known genre film festival in Brazil to receive their career achievement award. Apparently, I’m the first female filmmaker honored with it.
