Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Thompson.
Katie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved to talk, it’s my favorite thing to do. I’m sure it has something to do with watching my father (Mark Thompson of Mark & Brian) do radio in LA my whole life, and I always wanted to follow in his footsteps. After going to beauty school and realizing I didn’t want to do hair or makeup, I was given the opportunity to work in radio as a field reporter named “Chick on the Street” on 100.3 The Sound.
That job sadly came to an end when the radio station was purchased and they cleaned house, however it was then I decided to take matters into my own hands and start my own podcast called See You Next Tuesday. My show is all about honesty, sex, love, and being your most honest self. I wanted to educate men and women on sex while also sharing some raunchy and embarrassing stories of my own. Each week I invite a new guest on to discuss all things sex-related, imagine Sex and the City meets Millennials.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s been many struggles and hurdles I have jumped over, but the main one being my xanax overdose. I was addicted to it for years and it caught up to me during my radio years. I ended up overdosing one night after having tried to ween myself off of it and failed. Took a handful to feel better and then accidentally overdosed. I used to be ashamed of that story but I’m not now. It made me who I am and it’s apart of me. I’m five years sober from xanax now and so happy to be alive and tell the story today because I actually saw death that day. If anyone out there is struggling with addiction just know you CAN overcome it and there is help out there.
Please tell us about See You Next Tuesday Podcast.
The See You Next Tuesday Podcast is raunchy, sexy, and funny. I specialize in being honest, holding nothing back, and educating on sex and dating. I am most proud of making people feel like they can be themselves no matter what.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be anytime I was at Disneyland with a churro in my hand.
