Meet Katherine Smith of In Your Korner in Torrance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Smith.

In Your Korner is the brainchild of Katherine, a seasoned business professional; Professor at California State University, Dominguez Hills; And certified professional coach through the Life Coach Institute of Orange County.

After a 17 year stretch at the Boeing Company helping to build internal strategies and increase efficiency within the company, she began applying her own formulas for success to students, professionals, and business organizations. She noticed that through her guidance and mentorship clients began to see unparalleled success, and In Your Korner was born.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is anything but smooth, I can identify with many of the challenges that my clients are confronting. I have been a single mother, I have been on welfare, I have been unemployed, I have worked and gone to school at the same time. I know the commitment and sacrifice that is required to get the results and my desire is to partner with others to make their destiny a reality.

When I reflect on the journey, I have so much to be thankful for, people who invested in me and this fuels my desire to invest in the advancement of others. The journey is never ending however if you have someone In Your Korner who believes in you and your potential, your achievement is limitless.

Please tell us about In Your Korner.
I have a passion for building high-performance teams and have a clear understanding that organizations and individuals are complex and multidimensional, In Your Korner focuses on career development, succession planning, project management, and team building to create tailored programs that will yield results. At its core, In Your Korner believes in growth — personal, career, and business — and uses Kathy’s own proven formula, The Korner Method to get you those results. I have overcome the same challenges of balancing a professional career while simultaneously growing a business are both overwhelming and rewarding.

I am most proud of the value I add to the lives of others, the goals my clients have achieved for the personal, and professional development. I have witnessed teams transformed and projects succeed. What set’s me apart the is my commitment to my client’s success how they define it. What does success look like to you? What can In Your Korner contribute to success as you define it?

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The African proverb that says it takes a village to raise a child, is a reality for me in my childhood. My mother died when I was 15 years old, yet an entire village stepped in to ensure my success. My Aunt invested countless hours in my personal development and was passionate about me going to college. My uncle taught me to ride my bike and paid college parking fees until I got my degree. I got my phenomenal work ethic from my father, who make tremendous sacrifices to support his family. My godfather taught me about business and how to discern calculated risk. My brother will walk 100 miles uphill in the snow if I need him, he is my supportive listening ear, that says get up and get back in the race. I recognize that God will always send exactly what people you need when you need them. Your job is to recognize what their role is and when it is time to let them go, so he can bring the right people at the right time for you to achieve your destiny.
