Meet Katherine Kim of KATKIM

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Kim.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Katherine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Jewelry began as an accidental love. Initially pursuing graphic design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, a study abroad in London at Central Saint Martin College of Design is where I discovered my new found love and passion. I then moved to New York to finish my studies from Fashion Institute of Technology and soon after started my own line of fine jewelry.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As much as I’d like to just sit and design, there are so many aspects to running a business that it’s not all creative work as I hoped for. My biggest struggle would have to be when I decided to relocate from New York to LA after 12 years.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the KATKIM story. Tell us more about the business.
KATKIM is a minimal, modern fine jewelry brand that offers timeless pieces with an element of unexpected which makes every piece feel special. Outside of our collection, I spend a lot of time with private client’s creating bespoke creations, mostly engagement rings. It’s such a huge honor to have client’s put their trust in me to create the most important piece of jewelry in their lives.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I tell myself that I am lucky and see my circumstances in a positive way which I believe has opened more doorways to opportunities. It doesn’t mean that things won’t go against you, it’s just that those things are either not taken to heart, or flipped to be used positively.
