Meet Katelin Wallace Journigan of The Salty Dog Studio in Costa Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelin Wallace Journigan.

Katelin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been a full-time wedding photographer for the last 8 years, but as a creative mind with an artistic eye, I have always been looking for new opportunities to venture out and grow my business. In 2015, I had been photographing my silver lab, Captain, for a couple months when suddenly people began asking me if I’d be willing to photograph their family pets. Just a couple months after that, The Salty Dog Studio was officially established. I am very fortunate for the opportunity to have a second business that combines my love for animals with my talent and love for photography.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think one of the biggest challenges has been finding a balance between running Katelin Wallace Photography while trying to grow and expand The Salty Dog Studio. Some of my biggest supporters have been my clients from my wedding business and it has been so fun getting to photograph their pets as they grow their families.

Another hurdle has been finding a great home-base studio space for The Salty Dog Studio. We are currently in transition moving into our new space off of 17th Street in Costa Mesa, but we are still excited to be implementing pop-up shops throughout the LA County.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the The Salty Dog Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
The Salty Dog Studio is known for our pet, mainly dog, portrait photography. People love that we photograph on different grey scale backdrops. We do that for a clean modern look that truly accentuates your dog’s personality and characteristics. Although we offer outdoor lifestyle sessions, most of our clients are interested in our natural light studio portraits.

We pride ourselves on the final product being an amazing piece of artwork that can live on your wall alongside other family portraits. Some of our signature prints include restored wood hanging canvas, prints on wood, and clean matted modern framed photos.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have had to work very hard for everything, but I do feel grateful for the way The Salty Dog Studio Instagram page took off so quickly.

Pricing:

  • Most of our clients invest between $300-$800 for their session and artwork.
