Meet Karla Salguero of Blink Studio in Manhattan Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Salguero.

Karla, please share your story with us.
Blink Studio was started five years ago by myself and my sister, Cindy Strom. We both had a passion for the beauty industry and wanted to start a boutique establishment where we could specialize in eyelash extensions, spray tanning and waxing service treatments.

We are a small family owned and operated business. Coming from a family of four girls, we wanted to create a place where women felt like they were getting all dolled up with sisters. Truly, we think what sets us apart is that our studio feels like home to many people — filled with lots of women and laughter.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The beginning is always scary and there are always obstacles. We started Blink Studio in the tail end of the last recession. We decided to go for a dream we both had and pushed through regardless of the financial strain it had on our personal lives. It was a dream to work together as sisters and build a brand that women were drawn to because it felt like home. I would say the way we persevered was by not giving up and staying involved in the south bay community. We donated to every school, charity, local event to spread the word of mouth.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Cindy Strom and Karla Salguero, owners of Blink Studio in Manhattan Beach, offer all-natural custom airbrush tanning, full-body waxing and eyelash extension services. Cindy is a licensed esthetician and certified lash technician, and Karla is a certified lash technician and airbrush specialist. Blink Studio has been in business for five years.

What sets our business apart?
We asked a good friend and client her thoughts on this question, and her response was: ‘Blink Studio feels like you’re getting all dolled up with your sisters.’ Truly we think what sets us apart is that our studio feels like home to many people — filled with lots of women and laughter.”

We are known for our eyelash extension services and exclusive brown sugar spray tans,

What is unique about our style and technique?
The eyelash extensions we use are tapered thin for a more natural-looking extension. While most lash technicians chose to ‘fill’ the eyelash extensions once they’ve regrown, we take the healthy/sanitary approach and opt for removing the existing lash extensions and starting over with a new set of eyelash extensions. This service is available at half the cost for clients returning within four weeks of their last appointment.

We specialize in a brown sugar express custom airbrush tan. It’s literally made of brown sugar and smells like candy. What’s great about this solution is that the color is brown vs. golden, it is eco-certified and all-natural, paraben-free, gluten-free and can be rinsed off in one to three hours time!

What were you like growing up?
We were born and raised in LA and grew up on the west side. As sisters, we were always interested in all things beauty. We are also first generation Americans. Our parents came to the United States at ages 17 and 18 believing in the American Dream and we are living proof that the dream is possible. Our father is a small business owner who always encouraged us to do what we love. It was a lifelong vision to open our own small business and follow in our parent’s footsteps.
