Meet Karim Abed of WYR Wear in Orange County and Koreatown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karim Abed.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started WYR Wear because I was tired of having to choose between overpaying for brands claiming they had the secret to “premium quality” or mass-produced big retail. I wasn’t interested in flashy shirts or big brand logos and just wanted the clean, well put together, effortless look with exceptional quality. All these things should be accessible without having to pay a crazy price tag of over $50! So I went back to Egypt to find the perfect fabric to truly elevate men’s essentials.

WYR Wear uses the finest Egyptian Giza cotton from the Nile Delta region for our signature fabric designed for premium comfort and durability in everyday wear. We don’t use cheap polyester blends in our fabric like most other brands. Our signature fabric is made with 95% extra-long staple Egyptian Giza cotton and 5% Lycra. We use a premium weight combed cotton (200 g/sm) that is 30% heavier than the average t-shirt. This blend gives you the best of both worlds; the breathability, softness, and comfort of cotton with the exact amount of flexibility and contour to the body. The result is a premium feel and a unique fit and comfort.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a struggle to get this business started from the ground up, several mishaps in design, procurement, production, and shipping. Everyday has presented its unique set of challenges and growth opportunities. Some of our struggles included finding the perfect fabric, various design changes to perfect the fit, and how we can smoothly ship on a consistent basis.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about WYR Wear – what should we know?

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My girlfriend who gave me advice along the way, my dad in Egypt who helped me in procuring and shipping, and the team in Egypt that has put as much hard work in perfecting the product as I did.
