Meet Kara Keller of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Keller

Hi Kara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always be drawn to the arts and after becoming a single mom, I wanted to find a way where I could have a creative business and the flexibility to be there for my 8 year old son. I didn’t want to miss any time with him. I also love to show him how its possible to create a business you love. It was a lightbulb moment when I discovered Surface Design! Its the business of creating repeat patterns or single motifs for products. Thing of anything that has a surface from a journal, stickers, throw pillows or table cloths. They all are a blank slate until a Surface Designer creates art to decorate its surface. Once I found out about the industry there was no turning back, it felt so right with my soul. I then didn’t let a day go by where I didn’t do something to propel me towards my dream. I painted, sketched, learned to digitize my artwork, created my website and LLC and began pitching. I’m in contact now to license 4 of my pieces of art and really having a pinch me moment. I’m so grateful for this opportunity.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding the time to create is my biggest obstacle. Instead of waiting for a good chunk of time, I squeeze in making art all throughout the day. I find that the more I create, the more creative I feel.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create hand painted works of art in gouche and watercolor to decorate the surfaces of products. My favorite subjects are nature and I love working in small details.
