Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamari Richardson.
Hi Kamari, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I recently moved to LA last year after losing my apartment in New Jersey due to an apartment fire. It’s been a journey because I never thought I would end up here. I believe everything happens for a reason, and I’m still learning that lol I am originally from New Jersey and have spent most of my working career as a professional nanny and entrepreneur. I have a passion for working with families and helping children grow creatively and freely. I lost my mother at a very young age and that I believe is why I also love working with children and families. It makes me feel like I’m working and walking in my purpose. The one thing I would leave with people and something I tell myself frequently is to thrive now! Find joy, peace, love, and resources right where you are. I love people but loving myself has been those most rewarding journey thus far.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Wow! I think I shared a few of those struggles in my intro, but I believe one of my biggest struggles has been knowing that I am enough and that I am as great as my friends and family believe. I have a lot of ideas and creativity, but sometimes I doubt myself. Life has its way of breaking us sometimes, but I have always been someone to rise up again and again. So, my biggest struggle has been reminding me of my power.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For the past 5 years, I have been the creator of @Girlswhogrindd. It was a group I created to make friends who were small business owners in New Jersey. Over the years, we host an annual brunch to celebrate and support those women. I started my first year with 10 women in my friend’s back yard to now sold-out tickets along with vendors to support up-and-coming small businesses. Prior to my apartment fire, I ran a small business called Therapy by Mars which sold beard, hair, and body butters. One of my favorite things to create are intimate events that bring people together to network and have fun!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Going for rides in the car with my grandpa, uncle, and sister. We would go for like 20 min rides around town to look at houses, and we would get so excited when my uncle would make a turn that wasn’t near the house because it meant that we could ride around longer. I was a grandpa’s girl! He would take me to the school bus stop every morning and ride the public bus with me to high school every morning. That had to be some of the best years.
