Meet Kailyn Provin of Pacific Ocean Charters in Redondo Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kailyn Provin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Upon graduating from Colorado State University-Pueblo, where I played soccer and obtained my Bachelors Degree in Business Management, I moved back home to the South Bay. I worked in corporate for about two years and felt myself drifting into a robotic state where I was not truly fulfilled. June of 2017 was the turning point in my life. I quit my good paying corporate job, packed a backpack and explored Europe for three months.

When I returned home, I was determined to build a company from the ground up and work for myself. I have always had a passion for people, and I was born into a competitive family that influenced my entrepreneurial drive immensely.

Pacific Ocean Charters was born through my adoration of the ocean and my father’s idea to put our family boat, The Por Vida, into chartering company. We started off with just the Por Vida, and now market for three additional boats located in Avalon-Catalina Island and Marina Del Rey.

My brother Kirk has been my partner in this venture, he obtained his Captains License and had conducted over 90% of our charters in the past year. Upon our brother Konnor graduating from college, he too got his Captains License and had helped us get to where we are today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a startup family business in Southern California is no walk in the park. It took us about six months to obtain all of the necessary insurances, permits, licenses, and countless other documents needed to make us legitimate.

Starting your own business is expensive, and at times can get discouraging, the money seems to go a thousand different directions before it hits your account, but I will say that being able to work with my brothers on the boat we grew up on and build a successful business has been worth all of the struggles.

Please tell us about Pacific Ocean Charters.

Pacific Ocean Charters connects people looking to experience the ocean with the best charter boats and captains Southern California has to offer.

We currently have four boats available for charter: The Por Vida, located in Redondo Beach, the Catallac, located in Avalon, Catalina Island, and two yachts located in Marina Del Rey, The Duchess, and The Legend.

The Por Vida is the perfect boat for an intimate experience on the ocean and comes with a licensed captain. This boat is ideal for whale watching, sunset cruises, harbor cruises, memorials, special celebrations, and much more. The Por Vida specializes in memorials at sea and works closely with Coastal Funeral Center provides a special option that allows you to establish a final resting place on land that also includes a Coastline Memorial Service to celebrate your loved one’s life by the sea.

I’ve always believed in the ocean’s ability to impact people’s lives for the better, and the Por Vida continuously proves that statement to be true.

The Catallac is a forty-nine-passenger yacht in Avalon, Catalina Island that includes a licensed captain and has countless charter options: private charters, cocktail cruises, weddings, island tours, memorials, fishing charters and the well known flying fish tours!

Catalina Island is the secret gem of Southern California. To me, it resembles Positano, Italy. Beautiful, multi-colored homes, crystal clear turquoise water, and countless things to do. It’s the perfect weekend getaway and chartering the Catallac allows you to take in the gorgeous views that can only be fully absorbed by being on the water. In Catalina, you feel as though you’re halfway across the world, but in reality, you’re only 25 miles off the California coast.

The Duchess is a luxurious 63ft. motor yacht that comes well equipped with a licensed captain and professional crew. The Duchess can accommodate a variety of charter experiences including, whale watching, sunset tours, overnight destination charters, memorials, deep sea fishing charters, you name it! When you are a passenger on the Duchess, you truly feel like royalty.

The Legend is a classic 70ft fully restored vintage yacht that also includes a licensed captain and professional crew. When stepping on The Legend, you feel as though you are stepping back into time. The teak and mahogany wood create a warm and inviting ambiance that you don’t experience often. The Legend is the ideal yacht for larger parties and like the Duchess, can accommodate just about any type of ocean-based experience you are looking for.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
This is a hard one as I have many fond childhood memories.

One of my all-time favorite memories was when my brother Kirk and I paddled from Torrance Beach to the Cove where we spent an hour surfing and enjoyed the beautiful day. We had the cove to ourselves, the water was crystal clear, and at that time, we didn’t have anything to stress about.
