Meet Kaila Yu of Nylon Pink in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaila Yu.

Kaila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I just started my travel writing career about a year ago and started the travel blog a year before that. Previous to that, I was working with PR & Marketing clients and even before that I was the lead singer of an all-girl rock band that toured all around the world. It was during these tours that I developed the travel bug and the desire to pursue travel writing as a full-time career

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s definitely been a learning experience! It took me months of pitching before I started getting accepted into the outlets that I dreamed about. Most recently, I had a piece published in Vice which is one of my dream publications. I literally pitched hundreds of publications with many rejections along the way.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Nylon Pink story. Tell us more about the business.
My travel/lifestyle blog is called Nylon Pink and can be found at NylonPink.tv The blog regularly receives over 100,000 page views a month and focuses on the best travel destination and foodie adventures around the world. I run the blog with my business partner Kiki and we are really proud of producing high-quality content that we hope is truly helpful to our readers and the brands that we collaborate. We stand out because we attack our business from every angle, social, multimedia, Facebook ads, Pinterest, SEO, and beyond.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe that luck is produced by hard work and what we perceive as a “bad” event is really just an opportunity either to learn or push our business forward. Kiki and I were both in the band that I mentioned before, I was the lead singer and she was the lead guitarist. It was heartbreaking when we decided to stop pursuing music but the experiences that we had while touring were necessary for our blog and travel business today.
