Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacey Azucar.
So, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started dancing when I was about four years old. I started training at this community dance studio in Los Angeles called Everybody Dance Foundation and started off with ballet. I never stopped training and I fell in love with dance. I later started doing different styles like tap, hip hop, and then now I’m training more in contemporary and still doing my original styles. I also went to Debbie Allen Dance Academy for a good amount of years, mainly for hip hop. There was a small period in time where I stopped training and I was just on the dance team in high school. Now that I’m in college I’m trying to major in dance and I’m training a lot more in and outside of school, performing more, and trying to work on my own projects as well.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like any dream you have definitely has its struggles and that’s the beauty of your passion because in the end, you appreciate it so much more. So yes! There definitely has been struggles throughout my dance journey and trying to make a career out of it. There was a period where I couldn’t train anymore because school became more of a priority than training. Once I graduated high school It was still hard to get back into training, mainly outside of school, because well I had no money or a job. So trying to get all of these things was hard to get a grasp of especially being a college student at 18. Currently, my only struggle is trying to get an agent but I’m a strong believer of whatever is for you will come at the right place and time.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about what you do – what should we know?
Since I have been dancing for so long, everybody knew and knows me as the dancer girl right now I mainly perform in my college, so I’m usually known for being that fierce dancer and I get at least one person saying that I was the highlight of there night & it’s such a great and humbling feeling. I’m most proud of my drive and faith because no matter how many people question my dream of being a professional dancer, I just keep going for it, my passion for it just keep getting bigger, and I’m only getting better.
What sets me apart from the rest is that I’m selfless and a perfectionist as well, so that means I want everyone to be at there best, myself included. I feel like when I’m performing, I give passion and intention for myself and the people around me because dance is the community and that’s how we all started, as one.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel like if you don’t love what you do or have passion for it, your goals will not succeed. I don’t think there is ever a stopping point for success especially if it’s something you truly love. If you’re truly passionate about something you’re always going to want to do more with your craft. Personally, I don’t think I’ll ever stop dancing, no matter where it takes me.
