Meet June Jung

Today we’d like to introduce you to June Jung.

Thanks for sharing your story with us June. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always wanted to have a job related to drawing and I thought tattooing could be a perfect job. Getting into it was not easy. I pretty much taught myself and made a portfolio to get a job. Once I was in the industry, I spent many years finding my own tattoo style. Eventually, I found my niche doing tattoos which are more illustrative designs and watercolor effects. This style is heavily influenced by my own painting and drawing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting was the hardest part for me. I didn’t know how to learn and how to start so I had to figure out a lot of things by myself. I sometimes visited tattoo conventions and watched artists working over their shoulders for hours and hours to learn. I tattooed many people for free to build my portfolio and then found a job. At that time, I was living in New York and supported myself as a bartender.

Please tell us more about your art.
I am a founder and one of the artists of our business. I am known as a watercolor-style tattoo artist and painter. I love tattooing flowers and a lot of people come to me for my illustrations and color style.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m lucky that I haven’t had any bad luck but my tattoo career was built very slowly and over many years. Honestly, it was just persistence and hard work. I love tattooing so it was natural for me to focus on it completely. For starting my shop in LA, I was lucky to meet Rob, my husband, who has been a big supporter of me since day one. We started the shop together as business partners and he is really good at managing the shop and our business.
