Meet June Haupts of Welcome Coffee Cart in Santa Barbara

Today we’d like to introduce you to June Haupts.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I fell in love with coffee in Croatia. I was immediately inspired by the energy of young entrepreneurs and the influence of Specialty Coffee in the capital of Zagreb. When I got back to the states, I became a barista at a specialty coffee shop in Santa Barbara.

I enjoyed teaching people about the economics of coffee and the importance of the farmers. After a couple of years, I got the itch to start my own coffee company, with the goal of eventually roasting and sourcing coffee.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, at the beginning of any new venture, there is a lot of self-doubt and discouragement. Along with becoming a small business owner, I had to become an unofficial plumber, electrician, carpenter, and designer.

Luckily, I had a lot of supportive and talented friends to teach me. I think when people see the passion behind what I do, they want to support that dream.

Welcome Coffee Cart – what should we know, what do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I started Welcome Coffee Cart in 2016. It is beautifully designed with a state of the art La Marzocco espresso machine, allowing you to order just about anything you could get at a specialty coffee shop. I’ve made coffee for a myriad of clientele from festival goers to celebrities, newlyweds, and retreats for CEOs of major companies.

I get to meet so many different types of people, which constantly keeps me inspired. I’m most proud of the moral principal of my company. Which is every time you have an interaction with Welcome Coffee Cart you will always feel included and appreciated as a person.

What sets me apart from others is that I am one of the very few people who are doing this in the United States. I have seen big, clunky, industrial coffee carts out there, but none like mine. Welcome Coffee Cart is made for high volume and high quality and is gorgeous.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Working hard to create financial independence and freedom for myself through my ideas empowers me. By creating an authentic product that adds value to people’s lives everyday gives me a sense of accomplishment and purpose. Coffee is an industry that teaches, connects, and energizes. To be a small part of that uniting goal is my definition of success.
