Today we’d like to introduce you to June Beristain.
June, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico and exposed to holistic medicine from a young age. For as long as I can remember, I have served as a confidant for friends and family, with my loved ones frequently requesting my advice. However, it was not until I discovered Traditional Chinese Medicine that I realized I could channel my intuition into a career where I could support others in their healing journeys and inspire them to be their best. All of this led to the conceptualization of Amplify Acupuncture.
In 2005, I moved to Southern California to attend Santa Monica College, after which I transferred to California State University, Northridge to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Subsequently, I found myself at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising as I initially had dreams of creating an athletic wear line with my father, professional boxing trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain. While studying at FIDM, I stumbled upon the practice of acupuncture and quickly realized I could hone into my abilities to help people. After recognizing this to be my true passion, I switched gears and graduated with honors and earned a Master’s of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University. Upon graduating, I received my California Acupuncture License and decided to open Amplify Acupuncture in Santa Monica, CA, bringing my approachable, modern take on the ancient practice to the wellness-driven city.
As an active member of the California Acupuncture Association, I spend my free time working out and consuming all things related to health, lifestyle, and functional medicine.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. There have been many different challenges, but it has brought me so much personal growth that I cannot help but be grateful. As someone who just launched her first business, I think the most valuable challenge has been to learn to accept that obstacles are forever present and always ongoing. One’s own fears are very challenging as well. At the end, you have to make choices, move forward, and take risks while being at peace with the fact that things might not go your way. I am a first time entrepreneur with a business that is very different than what is currently out there, so it was hard to find a landlord that was willing to offer me a lease for the type of space I wanted. I feel very lucky I did.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Amplify Acupuncture story. Tell us more about the business.
Amplify Acupuncture, which opened November 2017, is an intimate escape in Santa Monica providing no-reservations-required restoration and revitalization in just 30 minutes. Clients can pop in on their lunch break and opt for an approachable and accessible acupuncture rejuvenation. For those who want a restorative post-workout balancing, a mindful moment for health and happiness, or treatment for injuries and ailments, Amplify Acupuncture brings ancient healing to our modern daily lives.
I’m very proud of how accessible Amplify Acupuncture is as it was always my goal to offer a place that would make it really easy for people to get treatments. We offer a great price, you never need to make an appointment, we are at great location in Santa Monica, and our space is beautiful and comfortable. But I am honestly most proud of the positive and absolutely brilliant people that form Amplify Acupuncture.
Putting a good team together was a huge challenge as well. There were a few great people that were not a great fit for Amplify and having to end those employment relationships was challenging but very positive at the same time. I learned a lot from that experience.
What sets Amplify Acupuncture apart is that no other acupuncture clinic offers the type of experience that we do. Actually, I do not even see Amplify Acupuncture as a “clinic;” I call Amplify Acupuncture an Acupuncture Studio, meaning that we are a very accessible, comfortable, and friendly experience. Our prices are very accessible and you do not need to set aside hours of your day for a treatment. Every treatment is 30 minutes long, you are in and out in 40 minutes, and you never need to make an appointment.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There have been many, many serendipitous moments both in my life and in creating Amplify Acupuncture, but I would not call it luck. It only takes a little bit of attention to notice that there is no such thing as coincidence. Everything has a purpose and a design, and I do not presume to know what those ultimately are, because I have also learned that just when you think you got it, there is always more. Life will constantly reveal new levels of depth and different dimensions to situations and relationships. So with that said, I have decided that no matter what, I will do my best and enjoy the ride, and in that way, there’s no way I can lose.
