Meet Juliette Tworsey of Joshua Tree

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliette Tworsey

Hi Juliette, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I met Jules in our hometown of Chicago and we decided to form a band around the two of us. We moved to Los Angeles with our band. When we first arrived in L.A. we lived in a small bungalow just down the street from The Viper Room in West Hollywood (with my band and our two rescue dogs). After a few years in West Hollywood we moved east to Silverlake. We played quite a few shows in and around Hollywood ,Silverlake, Echo Park and Downtown L.A. After living in Silverlake for a few years, we took a big leap and moved across the country to New Orleans where we emerged ourselves in the rich musical culture there. During our time in New Orleans, we performed many shows and festivals. Currently we live in the HI-Desert near Joshua Tree National Park working with a producer on our next album.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would be lying if I said that it was ever a smooth road. In fact, it has been quite challenging at times. I think that this is also true for most (though not all) musicians that pursue this path. The love of music, performing and writing is what keeps me wanting to press on. I simply have always just enjoyed singing, playing guitar and writing songs and will likely continue on doing so for as long as I am able. The struggles have been many, but it has not stopped me/us from continuing to grow and discover new pathways. Utilizing our creativity and thinking outside of the box has helped to counter some of the more difficult situations that we have encountered. Another thing that has helped me to get re-centered in difficult times has been to remember why I started doing this in the first place: because I love it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I sing, play guitar, write songs, and more recently, I’ve been beginning to write songs on the piano. I think that I am mostly known for my style of singing, which most people seem to say is both familiar and unique at the same time. More recently, I have also been recognized for playing the slide guitar.. I am most proud of the music and of the songs that I have written and of the collaboration process that I have solidified with my partner Jules. The continued growth is proving to be a real reward. This is what truly makes me smile at the end of the day.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is just simply try to be the best that you can. Enjoy the ride and be willing to think creatively when it comes to ways of getting your music heard.
