Meet Julie Leffler of Big Hype Marketing and PR in Costa Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Leffler.

Julie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have worked in marketing and public relations for almost 20 years promoting both individuals and businesses across a variety of industries including, celebrities, fashion, events, charity, consumer products, service industry, theatrical movie releases, home video and non-profit organizations. Earlier in my career, I worked at PR agencies in Hollywood representing home video releases and then celebrities, movie premieres and theatrical movie releases. I later managed both marketing and public relations at action sports company, Hurley. In 2006, I launched my own public relations agency, where I represented mostly fashion and lifestyle brands. After taking a few years off of work to be a mom, I decided to jump back into the workforce and launched, Big Hype Marketing and PR in 2015 with the goal of helping entrepreneurs like myself with marketing their companies and brands.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Launching Big Hype Marketing and PR was smooth, in fact, so smooth that in just over 2 years, we have grown exponentially and I now have 6 employees and 1 intern. The biggest challenge for me was balancing running a company, and managing clients and employees while still being a good mom.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Big Hype Marketing and PR – what should we know?

I am involved in every project that comes through the Big Hype doors, to make sure that every product and service is top-notch, up to my high standards, and to ensure that each service that we provide will be impactful and will lead to achieving the financial and brand goals of each client.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My dad was in marketing and worked with many hi-profile celebrities including Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Rita Moreno, Jane Fonda, and Richard Simmons to name a few. We often traveled with the Olsens on different work trips and I spent a lot of time with them. I got to see what goes on behind-the-scenes of filming, photo shoots, press junkets, VIP travel, trade shows and celebrity life. These experiences definitely inspired me to pursue marketing but also gave me the opportunity to feel comfortable around celebrities and not get too caught up in the glitz and glam of marketing and Hollywood. Having already been exposed to marketing and Hollywood allowed me to stay humble and focus on the work and advancing my career. I have since worked with many celebrities on red carpets, press junkets, and at events, and I feel comfortable interacting with them and managing their marketing.
