Thanks for sharing your story with us Julie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I know what it’s like to be that “great girl” who couldn’t seem to find her guy. I joined the local video dating service, and as fate would have it, I ended up marrying the man who sold me that membership. I worked for him for 7 years, and then I launched my own personal matchmaking and dating coaching company in 2001.
My mission has always been to simplify and dignify the dating process for relationship oriented men and women.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Owning a business is usually a wild ride. Some of my challenges have been financial — keeping reserves on hand for slower times and to fund development. Also challenging is the process of learning who might be an ideal client and … who might not. As time’s gone on, I am more and more selective about who I’ll accept as a personal matchmaking client, as expectations aren’t always in line with the reality that I can provide. This has been a learning process, and as a result, I encourage clients to be conservative.

I do lots and lots of dating coaching consultations, with both men and women. A consultation is a prerequisite for entering into a personal matchmaking program, as that’s when we dive in together to study prospective candidates and to align on key criteria. Most of my coaching and matchmaking clients find me by referral or are renewing, and I’m proud of that fact. I’m one of the rare matchmakers who embraces both men and women as active search clients, I do share detailed profiles and photos, so we have as few “surprises” on the first date as possible. I’ve won the Best Matchmaker award four times, which is an international award presented by Idate and Online Personals Watch – that’s been a great honor.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I absolutely love my business and service model and am very happy with the way things are going. I have what we call an “unfair advantage” as I have a HUGE date-a-base 🙂 and a very small client list, by design, so I can provide a high quality experience for each matchmaking client I do take on, and so I’ll have time available to schedule coaching consultations with lots of folks. It’s a sensible, effective, successful model from both the service and business perspective.
