Meet Juliana Tucker of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Tucker.

Hi Juliana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started singing the second I learned how to talk. My dad was a singer and songwriter so I was lucky enough to grow up around music. At the age of 16, I decided to pursue music seriously and that’s when I tried out for American Idol where I was honored to receive a golden ticket. After that journey, I started working closely with labels to record a demo EP, but after recording the tracks, I felt that the songs weren’t representative of who I am as an artist. That realization gave me clarity on my next steps in the industry. It was in that moment I knew I wanted to be an independent artist and stay far away from labels.

I decided to leave LA (where I’m from) and go to college on the East Coast to explore a new city. I graduated from Emerson College and had the pleasure of working with several Berklee College of Music artists along the way. I ended up having some serious health issues mid-college and was forced to take a break from singing, which broke my heart.

After years of me focusing on my health and trying to pretend I didn’t need music, the pandemic ultimately reawakened that desire in me to create music. A couple months into the pandemic I picked up my guitar and wrote my first song in an hour, ‘Call It Quits’. Since then, I’ve released my debut EP called ‘The Great Indoors’ and I’ve released more singles than I can count. I love each one more than the next and I’m so excited to release MORE.

I’ve been fortunate enough to perform at some of the most iconic venues in LA including, Troubadour, Hotel Cafe, Molly Malones & Hotel Ziggy. I plan on releasing my sophomore EP in Fall of 2025 and performing it live in LA when it comes out.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not! I’ve had health issues, troubles with labels, vocal cord problems, performance mishaps, name changes, and rebranding struggles…to name a few. At the end of the day, I write and release music because I can’t imagine not doing it. I love what I create and I love having the ability to do it. I love collaborating with incredibly talented and kind human beings and I love sharing my life with the world through my songs. Every song I write is either based off something I’m currently living through or something I’ve experienced in the past, which makes it special to me and that’s the big reason why I won’t stop doing it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer and songwriter who writes and records pop music based off my life. I’m not sure what sets me apart from other people and to be completely honest, I don’t necessarily care. I used to care a lot about what other people thought and I used to always want to craft the perfect response that I thought would resonate with people. But since I’ve been doing this for a long time and have evolved as an artist and a human being, I now just work on music for me and no one else. If 1 person hears it or 1 million people hear it, I’m still going to do it. Music makes me happy… and I can never get enough happiness.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my family or my collaborators. I work with some of the most talented and incredible songwriters, producers, photographers, stylists, mixers, audio engineers, etc. in the industry and for that, I’m forever grateful. I feel honored to even be in the same room as them.

My family is my biggest support system. Since I was a little girl, they’ve always believed in me and allowed me to express myself without limitations. I got my voice and my musical drive from my dad – at a very young age he taught me how to write pop songs and as I got older he taught me how to play guitar. I can’t imagine where I would be without that guidance and support.

I love everyone I work with and I always love meeting new people in the industry. Creative people are the best.
