Meet Juliana Slemenda of Another Cup Photography in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Slemenda.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up seeing the world through a creative lens. My parents are both artistic in different ways and raised me to find beauty in the world and to follow my heart – my heart led me from small town Oregon to Los Angeles, where I eventually came to run social media and marketing for a small restaurant group in Pasadena. That was the first time I started taking photos that documented something other than my own life and I fell in love with the concept of a photograph that does more than just look pretty. The idea that I could create a picture that tells a story, that compels an emotion, is intoxicating to me; it’s an ever evolving challenge that continues to amaze me as I grow my business. While I absolutely love photographing people, that job was the gateway into the world of brand photography for me, and I continue to grow more and more excited about changing the way that businesses market themselves from “advertising” to “story telling.”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a completely smooth road building a business, but I do feel extremely lucky to have so much support around me. I struggle with the organizational side of being my own boss — I’ve always been highly creative but being diligently organized does not come naturally to me. I need a lot of help developing systems that will keep my business running smoothly. Thank goodness for supportive friends and family with plenty of advice and love to give!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Another Cup Photography – what should we know?
I named my business Another Cup Photography for a few reasons – first, the obvious, I really love beverages. I drink an insane amount of water and coffee and have a deep love for all kinds of beer, wine and spirits. Basically, I’m always reaching for another cup of something. Second, my passion was sparked out of taking pictures of food and beverage, to this day they remain my favorite subjects to photograph. I thought it was kind of a cute homage.

I’m insanely proud to be a self-taught photographer and businesswoman.

I believe that the most beautiful bits of life is in the details.

My business tells stories of people and businesses who bring beauty to the world with their passions.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Unconditional support and big dreams. I’ve never had limits to my imagination and I’ve always had an incredible community of people who continuously propel me forward. I’m unbelievably fortunate for both.
