Today we’d like to introduce you to Jules Bridgers.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to LA and roomed with a friend for about nine months looking for jobs. Thankfully, a buddy of mine helped me set up an interview for a PA job at Nickelodeon. They passed on me the first time around but reached out to me later with a job offer. While working as a PA, I was able to meet a ton of talented and amazing people who guided me towards the path of how to break into being a storyboard artist. I got in trouble a couple of times during some of these meetings, but I think it paid off in the end. Eventually, I landed a job as a Revisionist for Glitch Techs after busting my hump to improve my work. The crew was and still is super close and supportive, we put all our heart and soul into Glitch and it shows. After some regime changes, our crew was eventually let go and I moved on to full-time storyboarding on The Loud House for a little more than a year. I learned so much from my directors and fellow board artists. That year really helped push me forward and honed my skills further. I took on some freelance here and there and made good friends along the way. Currently, I’m over at Disney TV working on the upcoming series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest hurdle is moving to LA, knowing only a handful of people and a limited budget. The pricing out here is a little baffling to me. I’m from the East coast originally and I’m used to the cost of living feeling reasonable. Once I got into the industry, it took a lot of long nights burning the midnight oil to improve my work. I had a lot to learn and had to play catch-up with limited time. I’m also incredibly stubborn so I’d hate myself if I gave up.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Disney TV has been very welcoming and accommodating during these times. I look forward to working with them and hopefully getting into an office sooner than later.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have really focused on studying and practicing boarding more seriously. Also, I’d had saved up a ton more cash before coming here to save myself the headache.
