Meet Juan Turcios of IT-TC in Downtown Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Turcios.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Juan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Back in 1986, I gathered enough money and bought a PC to teach myself how to type on a computer. Soon after I made the decision to go back to school and learn more about computers. While I was at SMC my passion for information systems began, from there I continued on to West Los Angeles College and received my AA in Computer Information Systems. The education I received allowed me to outperform others and I was able to get a job as a Computer Assistant at United Way – Greater Los Angeles, in couple years I was able to get promoted to Systems Analyst and in that moment I knew this was something I love and enjoy doing. Soon after I was offered a position at NALEO as an Information Systems Director where I was able to meet and work with more people and my network grew. I started doing some freelance work on the side and by the time I knew it I was running my own business with my own clients. With faith and hard work, I was able to accomplish my dream of being an owner of an IT firm.

Has it been a smooth road?
There are always challenges and obstacles along the way no matter what industry you are in. The economy took a hard hit in 2008 and so did IT-TC. Many of the small businesses we supported closed doors or no longer needed our help because of downsizing. We love to give back to the community and that is why the majority of our clients are non-profits but many times their funds or grants aren’t given in a timely manner which creates conflict on my end because rent, bills, taxes don’t wait for anyone! We’ve had great times where we had up to 10 employees in a large office and bad times were downsized to half the office size when business was slow.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a great place for small business like IT-TC. I would definitely recommend starting out here. We like to hire people who have a passion for information systems and technology. Most are still in college or recently graduated. We love to see our employees grow and help them grow.
