Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Castillo.
Joshua, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After many years of being an infant and preschool teacher and director, I was dragged, quite lovingly by parents, into the field of consulting. I left the classroom to provide a greater impact and help more children, families, and schools. Consulting allows me the flexibility to meet pediatricians, occupational therapists, neurologists, teachers, etc to fine-tune strategic plans for my little clients. My work creates a unique support system for families that don’t exist when challenging behavior overwhelms parents and teachers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My business has been built and flourishes due to the amazing word of mouth referrals from current and past clients. Parents working past their own parenting struggles and explaining my unique style has allowed me to connect and collaborate with many new families. I am now finding my way into Canada via referrals!
Ask the Child Whisperer – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Ask the Child Whisperer focuses on increasing the joy in early childhood. I strive to translate what messages a child is transmitting when words fail them. I connect parents with their authentic selves and create specific strategies to navigate rough patches with more ease and consistency. A third of my child clients are highly gifted, another third are typical kids with challenging behavior, and another third are children with a range of diagnoses. From home meetings, teacher meetings, reading reports to aligning all members of the child’s support team, I will leave no stone unturned for my clients. I do not pursue parenting perfection. I strive to strengthen family connections!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is seeing my clients become more relaxed and joyful parents. My success is marked by helping greater amounts of families through, Instagram, Facebook, private consults, and keynote speeches. I also have an upcoming book, “Surviving Children’s Birthday Parties: How Moms and Dads Can Stay Sane and Still Give Their Young Children Happy Birthdays!”
