Meet Joseph Corella

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Corella.

Hi Joseph, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I discovered dance at age 7 and basically haven’t stopped moving ever since! I’ve been honored to dance on Broadway, in national tours, and choreograph for popular TV shows. As a performer, some of my credits include ALL SHOOK UP (Broadway), the National tour of GREASE (Dance Captain), the 50th Anniversary Tour of WEST SIDE STORY, and SURF, THE MUSICAL (Las Vegas). As a choreographer, credits include HBO’s docu-series 15: A Quinceanera Story, Hart of Dixie on the WB, and the MTV Video Music Awards. Using my dance, theatre, and fitness background, I love to teach dancers and non-dancers alike to move, exercise, explore their bodies and express themselves through the power of movement.

After over 20 years of performing, I transitioned to choreographing and teaching dance fitness. Thus, I created 567Broadway! which combines everything I love! The primary mission of 567Broadway! is to make movement and fitness fun and accessible for everyone! There is always a special moment when a first-time student enters the class and sees the gold top hats we use as workout props. (Yes, gold top hats are part of our workout!) Their eyes light up and seeing that reaction never gets old. I worked hard to infuse the joy of Broadway with cardio and strength training to create a fun and safe space for all fitness levels. Most importantly, this workout is going to make you SWEAT! 567Broadway! is truly an unforgettable workout experience!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The dance road hasn’t always been smooth, but I never expected it to be. When I started dancing as a kid, I was bullied a lot in school for it. That experience taught me never to let other people stop me from doing what I love. It’s a big lesson I have taken throughout my career always to follow my heart.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an artist, I love creating and helping others through art. That is why I love doing many things as an artist in this world. But, most importantly, I love teaching to help share the message of what the arts can do for someone’s life in many different ways. The arts can help you heal and open your heart to your true self. So, dance, sing, act, breathe, create and keep moving forward!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Always listen to my heart. Time and time again, my heart has shown me that if I listen closely, the answer I need will appear. Next, take action (or sit still) with that guidance. The creative arts also help me understand and listen to my heart. That’s why I am so passionate about sharing that message and the magic within it.
