Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Rodriguez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jose. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
My photography started out as a hobby that opened many doors for me. I was working at Nikon as a customer representative when my boss told me to take a camera and learn photography on my own. By experimenting with the mechanics of photography, I slowly fell in love with the art.
With a single click, an emotion can be captured behind an expression or a landscape. For automobiles, I like being able to capture the art of other artists. Being a truck owner myself, I understood the time and dedication that was sacrificed to maintain their artistic expression in their automobile. When a musician performs, I love capturing what they give to their fans and their motivation to perform at their best capabilities.
The atmosphere of being there up close and personal to these music artists is an experience that I was fortunate to have, and I am grateful. From this art, I build many friendships with other photographers and built more bridges of opportunities for myself. I was inspired by the work of others because it inspired me to get me where I want to be.
These friendships built into networks, and I took the opportunities to capture more and grow by learning more techniques to evolve in my art. More than anything, I just wanted to show my art, and I hope to continue doing so.
Has it been a smooth road?
Unfortunately, I did not have the support of some people along the way. I was told by some of my closest relationships at the time that this was pointless. I was told that I was not going to get anywhere with doing photography.
This was very disheartening, especially coming from the people who I needed me to support me the most. It was discouraging, and it made me second guess my capabilities.
However, I slowly realized that these relationships were not benefitting my cause, and I had to detach myself from the negativity. It was a difficult journey, but it was a change that was necessary to grow.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in automotive and portrait photography, as well as music performances. I am known best for my automotive photography; however, I am attempting to expand the photography I can achieve by capturing new subjects and learning new editing techniques.
What sets me apart from others is the love I have for the automobile community, as well as continuously being open to learning more techniques that help me expand my artistic abilities. I feel humble about the growth that I have achieved over these past years, and I am proud of how far I have gotten so far.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Definitely. Los Angeles is one of the most diverse melting pots of the world. Not only is there so much culture integrated into our beloved city, but there are so many different locations easily accessible from downtowns, such as the beach scenery, the mountain views, the cityscape, and even the urban landscapes.
There is always a place to shoot in LA, and the accessibility of having so many different locations to work with only gives more opportunity to capture art, even in the most unexpected of places.
