Meet Jose Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Rodriguez.

Jose, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a film, music video and web series producer. Through the years, I have explored different kinds of art, which is why I can say that art has become the passion of my life. In the year 2010, I received my B.A. in Graphic Design from the Digital Media Arts College.

In 2012, I received my Masters in Filmmaking from New York Film Academy. I have won numerous awards for my work in Films, and Music Videos. I’m a risk-taker, and I believe in Art. With an open mind, I have made my own dreams a reality. I’m an honest and dedicated person who can make miracles happen.

Position: Producer See Me Standing by DeStorm Power won the Innovative Video of the Year in the Youtube Music Awards.

Position: Associate Producer King Bachelor’s Pad (web series) won the prestigious Gold Award of Merit from The Prestige Film Award in 2012 and category webisode/internet programming for Awards of Merit in Best Shorts Competition in September 2012.

Position: Consultant Producer The Black Tape (feature film) got selected to be screened at the LA Indie Film Festival and Gasparilla International Film Festival 2014.

Position: Producer Isn’t this love (short film) won the Madrid Film Festival 2013 for best makeup and the London Film Festival 2013 for Upcoming Director and got nominated for Best Short Film and Original Screenplay.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It had been an interesting journey. Starting the first day coming to LA by that not knowing people in the city and trying to keep it together. But after the second year of being here, things started to move.

In my second year of college, I got the opportunity to produce my first feature film called The Black Tape it was a challenge because it was a tight budget and it went over schedule. But we pulled it through, and after two years in post-production, the movie got selected to be screen at The Gasparilla Film Festival. After finishing college, I got the opportunity to work on a music video. See me Standing with YouTuber DeStorm Power as a producer on the directorial debut of social media influencer Bromania.

Also was a great challenge because it was a tight budget and with a tiny crew.  We had to burn some favors, but we make it through. And unexpectedly, a month later we got nominated and won the first Youtube Music Awards as Innovation of the Year. That’s when I learned that all your hard work paid off. After that I took another challenge to produce another low budget feature film called So, You want to be a Gangster.

It a two-week production of handling a crew of 7 and a cast of 50 for three weeks. We had our ups and downs trying to manage everything, like losing one of the locations on our third day and trying to find another few hours later, there was a point that I had to replace one of the actors because he wasn’t able to make it. Being a moral support to the director when he needs it me the most. But in the end every paid off. It came out a good movie, and we end up in Amazon Prime.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I especially in producing music videos, promos, web series, and movies. I’m very proud of my first music video that I produce. It’s called See Me Standing by Destorm Powers, it won the Youtube Music Awards for Innovation of the Year in 2012.

Then doing music videos for Alaya, a Latin artist, it was an interesting journey, we started working on low budget music videos, and after all that hard work she was signed by Latin Warner Music, and she let me produced her first label music video title Bling Bling.

That video meant a lot for me because working with Alaya is hard to explain but she always saw me as part of her family, and for me, she had become a huge influence in my life. And seen her succeed and being part of the journey means a lot to me because it shows me, that hard work paid off.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, I enjoyed every second of this journey. I had my ups and downs, I’m still learning while I’m growing more. I think there’s nothing I would have done differently.
