Meet Jorge Duarte of Roocket Fitness in Huntington Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Duarte.

Jorge – kick things off for us.  Tell us about the Roocket story, how did it all start?

Since Fall 2014, Roocket Fitness Inc. has been dedicated to transforming the lives of regular people like you. Our gym’s unique approach towards weight loss and building fit bodies have resulted in disciplined minds. Roocket fitness started with an idea to bring the best of many sports into one single location where people can experience a world of knowledge.

Roocket Fitness was able to grow with the help of many of our loyal and hardworking clients. We will like to recognize that many of them have gone a long way to reach their fitness goals. From losing weight to been able to lift two times their weight, our clients have the opportunity to training in a competitive but yet friendly environment that allows them to push one another to reach beyond their limits.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new business with a unique idea no one seems to see but yourself is usually a hard thing to do. I had to borrow eight thousand dollars from personal friends in order to open Roocket Fitness. Not knowing if the business will make it or not, I was in for 8k no matter what. Now, 8k sounds like a lot of money but when opening a new business just in the first month and deposit more than half was gone, plus all the paperwork bills, I was left with no money for equipment. The first day we open to the public, we had nothing but the empty floor and a few cones and some PC pipes and used mats. Bases on that, people will come in see the empty gym and ask where is the equipment, my answer always was “I’M THE EQUIPMENT”.

Since day one, we had to struggle with the city of Huntington Park when it came to applying for a business license. For 2 years now we have been trying to get them to give us the right to work and help other people. Many times, we have been fined and told that if we continue to operate they will close us down and put me in jail.

This is my life’s work and dream and I told them I will fight until they give me the license or take me, I don’t quit.

Today, thanks to our clients and the community, we have been able to have one of the more unique and complete gyms you can see today. Our programs and classes are something never seen before, The Roocket Formula is our best and more popular training program we have.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
