Meet Jorge Aguirre of Glo Gang / Free Lunch in Downtown LA / Woodland Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge Aguirre.

Jorge, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During my high school years, I had no idea what I was going to do. I was the type of kid to never show up to class, I would ditch everyday, party every weekend, no ambitions, no motivation. I did sports in high school but never kept the grades to actually compete. I always had thoughts of just dropping out, once I got kicked out of my high school for attendance and grades I was sent to a continuation school.

My high school was a small complex, ten teachers and under 200 students. I was always the type to keep to myself since I had 9th grade credits my senior year I just gave up and started working a job. I was making good money but always blew it on weed, alcohol and other stuff. I said I could make a little more money and I started to sell weed, that was going good for me mostly everyone in my city was buying from me so I could care less about anything else. As long as I have my weed and my money I was happy. One day I was getting food and this girl started to talk to me, me being me I just got my food and left, same day I went back for an old friend, she saw me again and still tried to get my attention so I talked to her a little bit. As I was talking to had to go so I told her I would see her more by coming often, that never happened until a few weeks later when I showed back up she was there again and she talked to me more, she seemed interested, one thing led to another we kicked it and she eventually became my girlfriend.

As we are getting to know each other all I’m doing is selling weed and at that time, I started to feel a little like a loser. No dreams to fulfill or chase, how does she like me? She was always an artist, she started to tell me how she does art and her dreams of starting a clothing brand and all this other stuff. I couldn’t see why she would choose me with her but I really liked her so I had to come up with something. So I one day told everyone I was going to start to take pictures, I told myself imma sell enough weed to buy a camera and then I’ll stop, she just straight up told me “my mom has a camera I’ll let you use it until you can get yours” I was shocked but I took her up on that offer. Best decision of my life. I would just go to parties and take pictures of my homies and edit them, people liked them and they saw potential in me. Someone in specific is a very close Friend /brother of mine named Nate. He was already working with some upcoming rappers like Fauni and UnoTheActivist. He would just take me to meet them and do little stuff for them like drive them around and just take a few pictures, I eventually got my camera and lens and that’s how everything started. He got a gig with Chief Keefs camp and started to bring me around. I would do little recaps and show pictures for them and meet a lot of connections.

As time goes by, I’m not doing a lot but working and trying to meet as many artists I could to start up my own brand, it wasn’t going so well but one day I wake up to someone telling me my brother got killed, that shook me. I went crazy, I started punching holes in my walls throwing stuff around, I didn’t know what to do. I was so devastated I could barely even make it to his funeral. I’ve never been good with death. A week or two later I get a call from someone at Chief keefs camp saying that they want to hire me as a in house cameraman, I didn’t have to think twice, I believe it was Nate who somehow told them that I was the one for this job. From there, I’ve worked with Chief Keef for about two years now and in house for Glo Gang for almost one year. I’ve been meeting a lot of people and shooting music videos. I work all types of hours of the day and night. I want to do it right.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No it has not, during my path I’ve had a lot of violence my way, struggles with money and death. A lot of things that would have knocked someone all the way down not being able to get back up. I somehow always have found my way back up.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Glo Gang / Free Lunch – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
