Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Alexander
Jordan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a First generation American, born and raised in Los Angeles. My father is from Guatemala and my mother is from El Salvador. They immigrated separately to the United States of America, in the early 80’s, to escape a war, and for an opportunity at a better life. Growing up I was very shy, and quiet, I perceived life very differently. As a kid, I would play with Barbie’s and I would escape into a different world. I would always brush and style the dolls as well as all the girls in my family. I knew “hair” was always something I wanted to do. Crazy enough this year marks 10 years of my professional career as a hairstylist. It’s been a wild journey filled with countless blessings, growth & success.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think with anything in life, there will always be challenges. I think the biggest challenge I still face to this day is being a perfectionist. I always want the best outcome in everything I take on. In my earlier years, I struggled with putting myself out there, accepting myself, and being confident in who I am. I don’t struggle too much with that anymore, thankfully. Haha. Truthfully, though, I learned that you have to put in a lot of work and countless time to get to where you want to be. It’s not easy, and there are times when you feel like giving up, but as long as you keep pushing forward, everything will be okay. You have the power to be as successful as you want to be. I can say I have a very strong work ethic, which has shaped me into the person I am today. But above all, I have a strong support system which I am grateful for. My family and friends are the ones who keep me sane.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I can say that I do a lot. Haha, I have many jobs. but I am a full-time hairstylist. I always say that the beauty of the “hair world” is that there are so many avenues you can venture out into. I mostly work behind the chair. I love doing vibrant, fun colors and love my blondes and balayages. When I’m not behind the chair, I work styling editorial shoots, weddings, quinces, music videos, and red carpets. Doing hair has allowed me to meet the most amazing people, and I’ve been blessed with some pretty incredible opportunities. One of the biggest opportunities I had was to dance onstage at the 2023 Grammys and open the show with Bad Bunny. That was pretty surreal and lots of fun. I grew up dancing, so that was pretty easy, haha. I have also had my styling work be featured on billboards in LA, Las Vegas, & Times Square in NY. Which I sometimes forget to mention. When I do remember, I’m like damn ! That’s dope! Haha. My life can get pretty busy at times, and I’m forever grateful, but sometimes it’s nice to take a break and travel when I can. Traveling for me grounds me and makes me feel alive. It’s always needed to take time for myself and get in a quick getaway whenever possible. I have been able to visit countless places around the world. Having a career that I truly love and enjoy, has given me so many opportunities that I will forever cherish .
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love the most about LA is that it’s home. Every time I land back in LA after a trip I always feel good! LA is huge and We have so much diversity and love within our city. It makes sense why so many people move to LA to pursue their dreams . There is plenty of room for everyone and I love that you can meet all kinds of walks of life . I have built so many memories throughout the years in this town. From growing up, roadtrips, going to concerts, to styling hair & doing shoots. I’ve traveled long and far, but LA will always be home.
What I dislike the most about LA is the traffic. I’m sure most locals can agree on that .
