Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Varsano.
Jon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I founded Vars Realty and Management in 2011 after working for several companies as a commercial real estate broker. I have been a licensed real estate broker since 1993 when I worked for my family’s business, Automated Laundry Systems where I sold coin laundry businesses and eventually became President. In 1995, I purchased an apartment building which I lived in and managed. I also helped manage family-owned commercial properties.
Vars Realty + Management was established as a brokerage and management company to expand upon my previous experience. In 2016, Vars Realty + Management changed names to Vars Real Estate and continues the Varsano Family tradition of investing, managing, and brokering industrial, office, and retail properties.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s never a smooth road. Long term investments in Southern California real estate have worked out very well since the local economy is strong and the appreciation rates have been solid. Of course, there are the day to day problems with repairs, upgrades, and re-tenanting but that’s just part of the job.
In regards to brokerage, every deal is different. Some deals are straight forward and simple, but most are complicated with lots of unpredictable variables. You definitely have to have a thick skin to be a successful real estate agent because there is a lot of rejection, disappointment, and wasted efforts. However, that’s what make it sweeter when you do close a deal and make your client’s happy whether it’s a new business opening up their first location or a season investor making a handsome profit on an investment property.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I like having a boutique brokerage that specializes in a particular property type in a certain geographic area. I do not want to be Keller Williams or CBRE. I would rather expand my personal portfolio and partner with complimentary businesses, than add hundreds of agents and a giant office.
I am proud of being part of the community in Culver City, as I both live and work here. I am focused on developing business in the Westside of Los Angeles and recently added a team named Silicon Beach Spaces. Working with startup companies is exciting because they are so energetic about their product or service that it inspires me to find creative solutions to their space needs. The intersection of technology and entertainment is transforming Silicon Beach into a ripe opportunity for real estate in West LA.
