Meet Jon Mangiagli of Mangiagli Surfboards in Hermosa Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Mangiagli.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started making surfboards when I was in high school at my dad’s surfboard factory. I moved home from school and started working there full time. My dad retired a couple of years ago and I’ve been running my own surfboard brand where I make all my boards. I also run the surfboard factory where I make boards for other companies.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Haha, no far from smooth. Running a business is hard work. I have seven employees. It’s hard to do my work and make sure everyone else is taken care of.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mangiagli Surfboards – what should we know?
The surfboard manufacturing business I glass surfboards. The factory is one of the oldest in California and has been around since the early 60’s. We specialize in traditional surfboard laminations. I’m most proud of our history. that’s also what sets us apart from everyone else

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My dad deserves the most credit. He’s run that factory since the early 70s. He’s glassed more surfboards than anyone ever. He ran a successful business his entire life.
