Meet Johnny Debut of Debut Industries in Echo Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Debut.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Johnny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated from California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in 2002 with a specification in Interdisciplinary Collaborative arts. This took me into the entertainment industries accepting a job at a well know casting company as head of non union commercial contracts. I was very young and the job proved a lot of stress and responsibility. I found myself unhealthy, overworked, overstressed and needed an outlet so I joined a local gym because at 5′ 6″ I grew to almost 180 lbs. I was 24 years old. This was the first time I walked into my first Indoor Cycling class. It took me about three teachers to find one that would start my fitness journey. I was in love with it. I began to loose weight, get healthy and was inspired by the instructors who gave me the tools I needed to make changes not only in my diet but my lifestyle habits. I left my job to work at a less demanding agency where I stayed for almost nine years. In the meantime, I began my certifications to become a Spin Instructor. After subbing on and off I was offed a position at a local studio that was the foundation of my career.

After teaching for about two years, students began approaching me for personal training. I had played with the idea as fitness had become a passion and huge part of my life. I decided to enroll at West LA college to start my certifications and the rest was history. Two clients became four and so on. I started training clients at Hollywood Gym in the heart of Hollywood but realized I was lacking privacy I needed for my clients. My husband and I decided we would be moving back to the east side from the Hollywood area and having my own inhome studio was a MUST. We found a great home with a great indoor studio space for training and Debut Industries was born.

I have been training My clients full time with an average of a two months waiting list for prime times. In 2016 I was courted by Equinox Indoor cycling program where I continue to teach cycle as well as metabolic conditioning and athletic conditioning in the main studio. More credited gyms are Hot Body Athletics, Gold’s Gym, Made in LA, Crunch Gyms, Regional Fitness Manager for Pedal Spin Studio, as well as special appearances throughout California.

My students and personal training clients are referred to as “Debutants”. We are a unique community and we choose, fitness, self-care, and mental health as our lifestyle of choice.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As anyone who decides to open your own business, the road is always gonna be bumpy because it is never guaranteed. In the beginning this is a scary concept when you are used to receiving a salary or can close the books and just go home. Creating a business has laws and protocols in California. For new business owners, it can all be very confusing. I had a great contact named Maria Flores, who works for an amazing city organization funded by the government called ICON. They were a great help laying a foundation and checklist for Debut Industries.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Debut Industries – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in 1 on 1 personal training. I started my career as a group fit instructor which was the grounds for the Debut Industries. Debut Industries specializes in Realistic goals using Strength training and Metabolic Conditioning technics that work into a clients personal lifestyle. I believe that the space I create for you to work out in is a space for education. It’s more than just picking up a weight and sweating. It’s about decision making, understanding the nutritional value of your food and modifying lifestyle to find a better sense of self-confidence. This is not an overnight process but my goal with each individual client is to build positive self-body images.

Debut industries also does remote training via video chat. These sessions are usually funneled to other Debut Industries approved trainers who are matched up based on personal needs.

I also act as a fitness consultant for entertainment companies like ABC Family, NBC, A&E, and Universal in which he oversees gym and group fitness sequences. You can also check me out on Storage Wars, as I’m Mary’s go to for appraising fitness equipment.

I’m most proud of the fact that my clients not only change their body, but they find joy when it comes to fitness. I am different from a big box trainer because I don’t have script or sales narrative. I just want YOU to be the best version of you. That is my calling card.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am always looking for new opportunities to grow and looking possible start my own trainer’s gym. A gym personal enough to feel like home. An environment where anyone feels welcome and special. I will also be having a new inspirational podcast with my amazing business partner and trainer in crime. I have slowly but surely also been working on a memoir of short stories about amazing individuals who not only inspired me but I feel have the ability to inspire others to always put their best foot forward.

Jhonny is a amazing coach! His spinning classes are a unique experience. Once you try it, no other instructor will fulfill your expectations.Everyone should try it at least once and see it for your self. I’m sure you will be signing up for his classes and you will get mad if he goes on vacations! He will show you how to be your best version.

I love this! My fitness journey started with Johnny! Little did I know that it was not only a fitness journey I was going to embark on. He changed the trajectory of my life. I am forever grateful for all the motivation and inspiration he has bestowed upon me. I gained so much confidence in my ability to take on challenges that made me step out of my comfort zone. He pushed me to, and out of, limits I never knew I could reach. Him and his husband are truly leaders in their industries, respectively, and I’m so happy to see their work being given the attention and spotlight they deserve!

    Love,
    A Debutant for life!

I had been spinning for five years when I walked into my first class with Johnny as the instructor. It was a religious experience (REALLY). From that day I took his classes 2-3 times a week. It never got old. He took me to church every time. One day after class about a year of meeting him, he said, “Wye don’t you become an instructor?” I always fantasized about it but never did I think it would be a real thing for me. Johnny took time out of his life to train me to sit in the instructor’s chair and speak into the mic and pretended to have a full class in front of me. He did this several times then asked me to gather some friends to teach a mock class. I will never forget that kind gesture. I became an instructor and taught in the same spin studio I first met him. How inspirational?! He even asked me to sub for him a few times! I was honored and scared to be honest. He was a huge inspiration to me and always will be.
