Today we’d like to introduce you to John Omar.
John, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
With my first company, Bitfountain, I taught over 100,000 students how to code. Running the company allowed me to live in five countries and work my own hours. After my company had run its course, my biggest fear was getting an office job and losing my freedom. I applied for a job as a software engineer and didn’t get it. I was facing a big challenge: Applying for other jobs so I can pay rent and then be miserable in that office job or trusting my guts and building something new from scratch – remaining an entrepreneur and maintaining my freedom. I decided to not let fear win and started looking for a new way to generate passive income. I started teaching myself how to day trade cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
On top of day trading, I have now built a large and active online community of traders that I teach my trading strategies to through my online course, private forum, and blog.
I now literally generate passive income while I sleep. Hearing how someone from my community could pay for their kid’s school or were able to quit their job fully, because of my course, inspires me daily. Not only do I make more money now than when I was working as a software engineer in NYC, I love that I can help others pursue their dreams of a more flexible lifestyle. My advice is even after your company folds, find the thing that motivated you to start the first company and use that to propel you into your next project. For me that was the fear of working an office job.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In my last company, I was more of the business person behind the scenes. With this new business of teaching people how to trade cryptocurrency online, I was all alone so I had to be the face of everything. My presentation skills were lacking, and I had little confidence in front of the camera.
It wasn’t until I was at a party talking to a friend about my personal successes trading cryptocurrency that I knew I could present this topic to people in an engaging way. We started talking about trading together, and after a few minutes there were 15 other people tuned in listening to me explain cryptocurrency trading. They were fully engaged. Over the next few weeks they all started trading and would constantly come to me with questions.
At this point I knew I could create compelling educational videos on this topic.
Please tell us about Chain Operator.
I run an online course and community that teaches people how to earn money trading cryptocurrency. The course teaches you everything you need to know to trade, including the strategies that I use when I trade. And the community is full of 300 active traders who are asking questions and sharing their trades.
The thing that sets my course and community apart from others is that I don’t pretend that this will help people get rich quickly like so many others do in the cryptocurrency and stock trading world. I let people know that trading is a real skill that takes months to master, and although you can make quite a lot of money, investing is inherently risky. I’m known for my honesty when talking about that.
Chain Operator is a one-man business. I’m the owner and there are no employees. I built everything myself and I keep it growing myself. That’s what I’m most proud of.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Since this is my second company that sells online courses, I’ve already applied a lot of the lessons I learned the first time around. For example, the major downfall of my old company was that I started created several courses, so we could have more to sell. The problem was that we spread ourselves too thin. Instead of creating one course that dominated the market before expanding, we created several courses that were not so well known in our niche.
Now with my trading course, I only have one course and will stick with it until I dominate the market in terms of people learning how to trade cryptocurrency. To do that I am making sure my course is the best one out there and that my marketing reaches a lot of people.
