Meet John Hennessy of Escape Room LA in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Hennessy.

John, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Our parent company, Race/LA has been creating and producing scavenger hunts and adventure races around the greater LA area since 2005. When I first heard of escape rooms, which was in early 2014, I thought it would be the perfect next step for us to take since solving clues and puzzles have always been a big part of all of our events. We opened our first room, “The Detective,” in December 2014 and now have four different games, all at our downtown LA location.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The most unanticipated thing has been how much wear and tear our rooms and props are subject to. We now meet weekly to go through the rooms and repair or replace things as needed.

Please tell us about Escape Room LA.
Escape Room LA was the first and is now (by far) the largest and most popular escape room company in southern California. Three things set us apart from smaller companies:
-the quality of our room design
-the integration of themes and stories into each of our games
-the high level of professionalism of our staff

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
