Meet Joey Diamond of H. Savinar Luggage Co. in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Diamond.

Joey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been with the company for 34 years. I started as a monogrammer and quickly moved into sales. Back then, there were five Savinar members and maybe eight other employees. The founder of the business back in 1916 was Harry Savinar. His two sons, Hyman and Harold would eventually run the business. Down the road, Lewis Savinar (Hymans son) would have the biggest roll in the company as the two brother got older. Eventually in 2000, I became manager. I have always enjoyed helping customers and creating new ways to generate business and keep the staff enthused at the same time.

Last year I purchased the business!

Has it been a smooth road?
I think of myself as a pretty easygoing kind of a guy but business always has its ups and downs.

In 2010, Lewis Savinar who handled the day to day of the business, suddenly passed away. At that time there was only one other family member in the business, Harold Savinar (89 years old at the time). I quickly jumped into Lewis’s shoes to keep the business running. This was especially difficult because of how close we were. Lewis treated me like a son and he was widely respected in the industry. Not easy to fill those shoes but I hope he would be proud of what I’ve done today.

H. Savinar Luggage Co. is a Brick and Mortar store that has been helping generations of families since 1916. Owned and operated by the Savinar family for 100 years, our goal has always been to bring you the largest selections of nationally advertised brands at the guaranteed lowest prices. We are not just trying to sell you a bag and move on to the next customer. We find out your traveling habits and needs and sell you the right bag. We are an authorized dealer of every luggage line we sell and we are also an authorized repair center for many manufactures. So we’ll take care of your warranty issues whether you purchased your bag from us or not. We also specialize in corporate sale. Often we will be approached at the last minute because another retailer couldn’t come through on a large purchase. We also can monogram names, initials or logos on just about any leather. Do you need 500 note pads with your company logo and individual initial? We’ve got you covered.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! But don’t tell the competition, I don’t want them moving in around here.

Seriously, we are not in a retail area. This is a destination location. Because we are so well know and been around for so long, people come here from all over. We happily will ship your item right to your door step. Retailers like LAX Luggage, Beverly Hills Luggage and many others have recently closed their doors and we are still going strong. We are doing something right here.
