Meet Joellen Ammann of Woodland Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joellen Ammann

Hi Joellen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been actively volunteering alongside Nora Ross since 2009. In 2019, she invited me to join the Valley Cultural Foundation, where I eagerly assisted with concerts, movie nights, and the annual July 4th event. When she launched NOHO Summer Nights in 2017, we divided responsibilities—Nora oversaw the concerts while I handled the Warner Movie Nights. In 2019, I transitioned into the role of project manager, transforming my volunteer efforts into a paid position, allowing me to continue doing what I am passionate about.

In 2022, after Nora’s sudden passing due to illness, I stepped in as the interim CEO. Subsequently, I was appointed Executive Director under the direction of the current Board of Directors.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When Nora passed, I had limited experience with the administrative aspects of the organization, such as workers’ compensation, insurance, QuickBooks, grant writing, and fund development. Over the past few years, I have proactively taught myself these critical skills, gaining proficiency in each area to effectively manage the foundation.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am deeply passionate about my work. In addition to my role at the Valley Cultural Foundation, I actively volunteer on three other boards. On one of these boards, I raise funds to support LAPD officers, helping to cover expenses not provided for by the city. I take great pride in serving my community in any way I can.
I am always the first to arrive and the last to leave. Whether it’s setting up tables and chairs, picking up trash, or overseeing the entire event, I am ready to do whatever is needed to ensure success.
I view each event as a puzzle, where all the pieces come together to create something meaningful. When it all falls into place, the event unfolds, and seeing the community enjoy it is incredibly rewarding.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Many people know that I am a passionate Green Bay Packers fan, but what most don’t realize is that I actually own a piece of the team. I purchased shares in the franchise over 20 years ago.
