Meet Joe Moller of Joe Moller Events in Eagle Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Moller.

Joe, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the oldest of 3 boys and grew up in Orange County, went to CSUN and was lucky enough to be hired by Barry Diller almost immediately out of college to run his West Coast Office. To say that was a huge learning experience would be an understatement. During this time, I developed a relationship with my 1st business partner, who was already engaged in the event production industry. From there, I left to produce television shows, helped launch the G4 Network for Comcast and continued my growth into television production, all the while constantly intrigued about event production. Long story short, I ended up leaving television production to start an event production agency with a friend. Our combined skill sets allowed us to grow quickly and work with maquis clients such as InStyle Magazine, People Magazine, Barry Diller and a handful of other big names. All good things must come to an end as they say and we ended the business relationship over a disagreement about celebrity vs business focus and we each went our own way. Thus, over 10 years ago began JME (Joe Moller Events). Since our inception, JME has focused on creating engaging, experiential activations and events for our clients that bring their unique brands to life in a cost-effective, brand-forward environment. JME has proudly worked with such clients as: Dr. Dre, Universal Music Group, Jimmy Iovine, Alison Brod MC, COTY Prestige, OPI, British Airways, Outfest, L’Oreal, IMG, Henkel, Absolut, Lexus, Starz, Hollywood Film Festival & Sabra to name a few. Our business model is to pass on all professional discounts for goods & services, not mark up any invoice and bring out of the box creativity to every project. Please check out some of our work on Instagram at joemollerevents and on our website at www.joemoller.com.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
According to Forbes and anyone who has produced events, event production is the 5th most stressful career you can select. That has proven to be true many times over and in ways, we never saw coming. From dealing with easy to resolve issues like shipping, pricing and missed deadlines, troubleshooting can easily escalate to more serious issues like client dissatisfaction, miscommunication and/or budgetary issues — basically anything that could and would cause a client to get upset. The worst type of problems to encounter can be those stemming from custom items, unique creations that aren’t easily duplicated reproduced. JME takes a lot of pride in not repeating event experiences for our clients, each one is unique. One case study comes to mind when we were producing a regional experience for a famous champagne house in conjunction with a world-renowned top fashion house. We had custom champagne flutes commissioned to enhance the champagne experience and as a result of them being mis-packaged for shipment by the manufacturer, they all arrived broken. Suffice to say, not a good situation. Fortunately, we were able to locate an acceptable solution and move forward as scheduled. Every event after that in the series, JME packaged the remaining custom flutes individually using more bubble wrap then anyone had ever seen. The nature of being an entrepreneur is that you have to solve problems quick, efficiently and correctly the 1st time, no matter what the source of the issue is. I often joke with friends who have traditional jobs that they only have to learn english once and that refers to understand the priorities and expectations of their supervisor(s). At JME, we have to learn English dozens of times every year, as each client uses the same language, but has completely different priorities and expectations. And that’s just one of the issues this industry presents. There are many more pitfalls, problems and issues that can and do arise no matter how prepared you are!

Please tell us about Joe Moller Events.
JME (Joe Molle Events) specializes in experiential marketing and event production.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
We grew up on welfare with limited resources, however, I don’t ever recall being aware we had less then any other families. I remember going to The Empire Strikes back at a drive thru dressed up in underroos from the movie. I felt like Luke Skywalker that night!
