Meet Joe Glasgow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Glasgow.

Joe, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My real story starts with me on stage telling it through a microphone. Stand up comedy quickly became a passion of mine at the age of 19, and the first pastime that made me want to be great. I executive produced my debut comedy album when I was 23 and was fortunate enough to perform at venues all over the US. Stand up took me to New York City, where I quickly realized: a lot of guys who looked/sounded like me were on stage telling a similar story (and jokes). It felt like a good time for me to find my voice, and in the meantime, help others tell their stories.

I hopped off the stage and behind the camera, at first filming comedy sets. Jessica Pilot, the comedy booker for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, took me under her wing and I began leading the production for the prospective late night sets. My confidence as a producer increased quickly as I sold a series to Amazon’s Audible, marketing their new comedy albums. This lead to opportunities directing/producing videos with big names like Louie Anderson and Migos, and working on productions for Netflix and Comedy Central.

My story continues with me on stage. Last week, it was a stage in Istanbul, Turkey. I have found that traveling the world helps me grow the most, along with inspiring new ideas for jokes and videos. Hostel Homies, my travel podcast focussed on the best parts of backpacker culture, has allowed me to combine all of my passions into one. I am currently finishing up a 6-week Euro-trip and I have had the opportunity to capture the stories of the wonderful people I have met along the way.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have been incredibly fortunate with my path in life. Looking back on my struggles, each one has allowed me to grow while also leading me in the right direction. After multiple surgeries and having to give up on the prospect of playing college basketball, I realized I’d better focus on that ol’ sense of humor. When the competitive and self-deprecating nature of stand up comedy lead me into another depression, I found a knack for producing. And once my television pilot went from a sure thing with a major network to a “no”, I took a trip abroad to Asia with my audio recorder. I am a firm believer that life is always happening for you, not to you.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Joe Glasgow Productions – what should we know?
As a freelance producer/creative project manager, I get to work on a variety of ventures all over the world. My production work spans from directing content for companies like American Airlines and Ancestry.com to conducting weekly Hostel Homies interviews with the influential people I come across.

A recent project that I am most proud of is my 3-Month Spanish Challenge marketing campaign for the Fluent Forever App. These were short, digital commercials capturing my exciting (and often embarrassing) journey of learning Spanish using a new learning method. Due to the flexibility regarding location for this job, I was able to spend ten weeks of this challenge exploring Europe.

I have become a one-stop-shop for production. The type of producer who can set up a perfect shot, find the ideal audio levels, hop in front of the camera to act, then edit it all together into a final product. I believe these skills, along with my flexibility/desire to hop on a flight, set me apart from others.
