Meet Joanne Baron of Baron Brown Studio in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Baron.

Joanne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I had a turbulent home life and soon found the imaginary world a great refuge. From playing the Lion is the Wizard Of Oz at summer camp to singing I feel pretty from West Side Story. On Ted Mack’s amateur hour I took refuge and found joy in performing.

By the time I got to college, I was doing plays and having great success. This all leads me to New York where after a few acting teachers who didn’t help me to become consistent and confident, I found Bill Esper. Bill would train me and encourage me and I eventually became a teacher with him at his Studio.

My career has spanned tv and film and theater for over 30 years with movies like Someone To Watch Over Me directed by Ridley Scott to Spiderman directed by Sam Raimi to This is 40 directed by Judd Apatow, tv like Mad Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and SVU.

I’ve performed on Broadway and created and starred in my own web series with Jeff Goldblum and Robin Wright. All my performing has stemmed from my love of the art and my healing experience derived from it.

I wrote an autobiographical play and the LA times said it was the story of how art heals abuse. I didn’t realize I had written that, but it seems exactly my journey. I am grateful to have found a way to heal and create and share the love I have for the art of acting.

Has it been a smooth road?
The struggles continue. There’s always rejection in acting, and every part is a new begging that challenges your confidence and calls upon your courage.
