Meet Jimmy and Farris Patton of Patton Photography in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy and Farris Patton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was a military brat as they say. My dad a Navy Seal. We settled in Las Vegas when he retired. I took a photography class in high school. Film photos! Imagine that! I met my wife Farris at 16. We have been married 15 years now and are business partners. My wife Farris is a commercial actress/model, which brought us out to LA 10 years ago. You would recognize her as the Orbit Gum Girl, the British character who says “dirty mouth”. She was tired of paying tons of money for new headshots, so I decided to get the needed equipment and take them myself. I am completely self-taught. I watched videos on YouTube about Photoshop/Lightroom and would practice all day and all night. Farris’ headshots were turning out great and her other actor friends were noticing. I would practice on friends. I had so much to learn about natural light headshots, too overblown, get light in the eyes, telling the actor how to pose, hair, makeup, capturing the character of the person, setting their pictures apart so they would stand out to casting directors.

My wife Farris, working on the other side of things wanted to make sure that every actor felt like this was the shot that would get them that part or that top agent to sign them. So we work hard to accomplish this. With our studio lighting, it was a whole new learning curve. More YouTube videos and sleepless nights of research. But hey, watching videos is free and a great way to learn. My career has evolved now. My newest passion is real estate photography and I have had the chance to photograph some amazing homes. Most recently an Aspen-like mansion in Toluca Lake as well as some work in Las Vegas.

In the last few months we have moved back to Vegas and travel to LA for work. We needed a break from the 405 traffic! What’s amazing about all this, I have taken my skills into film making. We have a vlog on YouTube “The Farris and Jimmy show” for over 3 years now. We post a few vlogs a week. Our most successful video has over 8 MILLION Views and documents a weekly video of Farris and her pregnancy belly growth of our first baby. I also have a YouTube channel “Patton Photography” where I do photo walks and instructional videos for other photographers. It’s all come full circle now. Lol!

We are hoping to keep growing our YouTube channels as well as my real estate photography business. Farris and I 100% support each other in all we do. We know how hard it is starting out and to keep things going. We thank the Lord Jesus for seeing us through the ups and the downs. Lots of prayers! For new actors or photographers out there, just stick with it and don’t get discouraged. Do what you love!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Finding clients. Finding the right locations to shoot at.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Jimmy was shy, like to surf, skateboard, draw in my room. Farris loved to act, dance and put on shows for friends and family.
