Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Pierce.
Jill, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My husband and I produced TV commercials for many years. It was time for a real change. We checked out quite a few businesses before we found Barry Carpet. For some reason, it felt like a good fit. The store had been around for many years and the clientele were very fond of the original owners. No one had a bad thing to say about Barry…so we kept the name and started to learn!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business is never a smooth road. There are always challenges. First, we had to learn a brand-new industry – not only the retail side, but also the installation/construction side. It was daunting, to say the least. My husband, my wonderful sales manager, Marbella, and I made a plan to change the perception of our store, slowly but surely. We now have a showroom that we are really proud of with the mix of materials that we believe in: wood, nylon, wool, luxury vinyl tile, and eco-friendly. The recession was incredibly difficult and it took years to dig ourselves out. We survived and we are going strong.
Barry Carpet – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
For over 50 years, Barry Carpet has been West LA’s leading luxury flooring business, offering one of the area’s largest selections of high-quality products. Now, a woman owned and operated business, we take great pride in having the eye for exquisite design and superior customer service. Our bilingual staff provide customers with a personalized shopping experience using guidance, patience and humor. We understand that the purchase of new flooring is a big investment, so we strive to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible—from start to finish. While carrying a wide array of carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl tile and laminate flooring products, we are also dedicated to carrying an extensive line of eco-friendly products to fulfill your residential or commercial needs.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The relationships I have with our staff and installers means a lot to me. I am very proud of the showroom with its mix of high-end and affordable, residential and commercial offerings, which took a long time to achieve. Our involvement in charitable endeavors has impacted both my staff and me, but also our community at large.
