Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Davenport.
Jill, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since I was a teenager, I have been exploring alternative ways of healing. I would go to health food stores and metaphysical bookstores like other kids would go to record stores. The world of holistic healing has always fascinated me.
I did a lot of other types of work before I settled into this. I was a theatre major in college and was pursuing acting for a while. I loved being able to really get into the mind and body of other people through character work. I think it helped me to understand a lot of different perspectives on how people feel and operate. I always enjoyed comedy and improvisation. Comedy is such a great healing tool.
I had many different jobs that I did through my life but I was always incorporating health into everything I did. When I was a bartender, I would make my regulars drink a water with lemon in it in order to get another beer. Haha. I would get my coworkers and some of my customers in on my order from the local vegan delivery restaurant. My friends would call me to see what was a good natural remedy for whatever ailment they or their family had, and I loved being able to help them find solutions.
I was always studying self-development through books, seminars and going through my own personal struggles. I wanted to be conscious of my habits so that I could live life on purpose and be responsible for the things that I had or didn’t have in my life. I was doing this work as a hobby and a lifestyle for a very long time.
I finally settled into doing it as a profession right after I went to massage school, in 2011. I had been attuned to reiki a year earlier and I found my next reiki teacher when I was in school. I got attuned to my 2nd level of reiki and I went through a series of reiki sessions with her, because I wanted to start my own business. I thought it would help with that. Well, it sure did! Within about 6 weeks of starting my sessions, I had left my job and found the space where I am now. I started my business and here I am today. The place that I found was so perfect. All the other practitioners that share the space with me are so kind and helpful. I couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to be in to startup as a new business owner.
Over the years I have had the most amazing experiences with my clients, seeing their transformations and thoroughly studying how energy work and coaching can be a life changing thing. When I look back at all of the things that have happened, I am still blown away.
More recently, I’ve realized through reflection of my most successful and dramatic results, that I work really well with people with relationship issues. I help people to stop finding themselves in toxic relationships: whether it be work relationships, friendships, romantic relationships, etc., and I help them make room for loving, fulfilling and meaningful relationships. So that’s exciting for me and kind of amusing because I used to be in some unbelievably disastrous relationships when I was younger. I have amazing relationships now though and I’m happy I can help other women do that too. Relationships are such a huge part of our lives and the truth is, it starts with our relationship with ourselves, so that’s empowering.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nooo. Of course not. Does any business have a smooth road? Haha. As my business has grown and evolved, I have had to do the same. As an entrepreneur (solopreneur, actually), there are definitely parts of the business that I struggle with. I do my own website, marketing, writing, as well as, of course, taking care of my clients and responding to inquiries. So that is definitely a juggling act. Marketing and tech stuff is probably my greatest struggle.
Please tell us about Luminary Healing.
I am my business so it’s a very personal experience. I do energy work and coaching together. I am a reiki master so that’s the foundation of my energy work but I don’t just do that. I use crystals, essential oils and guided meditations in my sessions. I have a background in transformational coaching, holistic health, nutrition as well as bodywork, so I incorporate this knowledge.
I would say the majority of people that I help are women dealing with something emotion-based and are primarily having a hard time with relationships. They are in a bad relationship with work, bosses, co-worker etc.; they always pick the wrong guy; they keep ending up with toxic friends, or are having a hard time making meaningful and healthy relationships with people.
I help women that have low self-esteem to build their inner strength and create healthy boundaries so that they no longer allow themselves to be taken advantage of or mistreated. I also help them to create space for a loving partner to come into their life and be in a place to maintain that.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Everything I went through was valuable so I don’t know if would’ve changed anything. Maybe investing in a great marketing course early on, so I could help people that need my help to find me.
