Today we’d like to introduce you to Jetta Juriansz.
Jetta, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m originally from Scottsdale, Arizona! I have a background in musical theatre, improv and trained at the Scottsdale Conservatory. I started to pursue tv/film in high school and fell pretty deeply in love with the industry. I moved to LA at 19 and continued to follow my passion for working.
In recent years I worked on a kid’s show for Hulu called Pocketwatch Challenge Squad, and now I work on BYUtv’s sketch comedy tv show, Studio C. I have always taken comedy extremely seriously (the irony!) and it’s an honor to say that comedy is my day job. Like….pinch me!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The thing I struggled with the most for my first couple of years in LA was trusting my gut. The imposter syndrome and creeping fear that I didn’t belong or deserve to be here kept me from so many opportunities to be my best self. There is a myth that in order to be successful, we have to be “marketable”, “branded” and “bite sized”. Trying to be whatever I thought the industry was looking for was exhausting and unobtainable. It took me a long time to realize that being my truest self is what makes me worth hiring.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m trying to be more unapologetic about my work ethic. I am wildly passionate about creating. I’m a total nut job once I’ve latched onto a project. And I love every aspect of it! Every single moment that brings a sketch, a film or an episode to life. I love to be a part of every phase of it (if I can). From pre-production to post! Nothing thrills me more than collaborating with a team, then looking at the finished product and thinking “that’s it. And I wouldn’t change a thing”.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I was really specific when I imagined my future. I knew exactly who I admired, what I wanted to achieve, and where I wanted to be! And it always had more to do with what excites me or who has the same vision that I do! The people I am working with now are people that I started pursuing at 19 and didn’t stop pursuing until we were working together. For me it’s about the work, and I hope that’s forever.
