Meet Jessie Bolor-Erdene of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessie Bolor-Erdene

Hi Jessie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It was around 2016 or 2017, the peak of YouTube creators and as one little girl does, I was obsessed with watching creators like Mylifeaseva, Michelle Phan, Alisha Marie and Liza Koshy . One day I sat on my bedroom window sill, placed my iPhone 5 and pressed record, not realizing that this simple act would be one of the greatest decisions I have ever made.

A few hours into posting my first ever YouTube video I got 25 views. For me that was unbelievable. The fact that 25 different people took their time to hear about my little world gave me a thrill that I still keep in my heart to this day. To everyone who watched my early YouTube videos, I cherish you all in my heart, thank you so much for motivating me to become who I am today.

I remember so vividly thinking after my first few videos “How beautiful would it be to have a room full of people who would love to hear me speak? Or become someone’s inspiration and give them hope? How incredibly lucky would I be to have fans and supporters who recognize me on the street and take pictures with me?”.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A long time ago, I used to be a little girl living at the hospital. When I was 6 years old I was diagnosed with ITP (idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura) which is just a very fancy term for saying that I had almost no immune system.

For seven years, I spent more time in hospitals than out of them, stuck in the relentless cycle of illness and recovery. I wasn’t allowed to participate in sports day, take PE classes, dance, play, stand up too long, or even move too fast. I just physically could not.

After my surgery I finally started living life as a normal child but at that point I was closer to becoming a teenager than being a child. All those years in the hospital made me more mature than any kid my age. Even though life seemed unfair then those 7 years utilized me to become patient (no pun intended), strong, resilient and mature. I thought “If there’s a limit to the amount of bad luck one person can endure in a lifetime, I must be approaching the end of mine ”.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My main focus is my studies right now. I am an incoming freshman at the University of California this fall majoring in Environmental Studies. I believe that education comes before anything else so one of my goals in life is to become the first to get a PhD in my family. This year I challenged myself in competing at Miss California USA, preliminary to Miss USA and Miss Universe, last June and it has been such a wonderful experience. I am currently taking a break from pageantry but I will be back to preparations very soon and go wherever this beautiful journey takes me.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People assume I’m athletic a lot. I think because most tall people tend to be very sporty people think I am too but as much as I love watching sports games I’m not the best at playing them. I have always been a arts and crafts girl. My current favorite activities are crocheting, nail art, bedazzling and scrapbooking.
