Meet Jessica Zimmerman of Jessica Z Beauty in Claremont

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Zimmerman.

Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a teenager I came across Alex Box with her avant garde makeup and images from London Fashion Week. I was so inspired by it and became instantly obsessed with the creative aspects of the beauty and fashion industry. I would religiously follow the runway trends and try to recreate crazy art pieces on my face and eventually on any willing friend or model. When it came time for college, I ended up in a prestigious cosmetology school in Seattle, WA and focused in on creative color & styling, along with editoral / fashion makeup.Following beauty school I continued getting as much education as I could get my hands on, doing a year-long advanced training program at Vain Hair Salon, and eventually moving to Los Angeles to pursue makeup certification and mastery courses. I assisted incredible artists like Stephen Dimmick, Satya Linak, and Vlada Haggerty and absorbed everything I could with such excitement that my dreams were actually happening! All of this lead to being a Key Artist at LAFW & NYFW this year and I couldn’t even believe it was real. My story has been full of learning, growing, dicovering, and stretching my creativity and knowledge further and further every year.

Currently, I stay involved with the fashion realm working with Vlada Haggerty on an occasional beauty shoot, along with being in a local Claremont salon Thursday through Saturday. In the salon, I am able to channel everything I have learned into the everyday beautiful woman to enhance her beauty and infuse her with confidence.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
In all honesty, its been a long and steady trek. At times nothing feels like it has made sense. And I believe this is due to the fact that the beauty industry is incredibly cut throat and even catty. There have been photo shoots and shows that left me so exhausted that I almost questioned if it was all worth it. And there have been salons I have worked in where other stylists bullied me to the point of causing me to question if I really wanted to keep doing hair and makeup. But overall, all these hardships and obstacles have shaped me and allowed me to realize what I value most in life and in my artistry. People are always my priority. Period.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jessica Z Beauty – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Jessica Z Beauty is a beauty company specializing in creative color transformations, long-lasting updos & makeup, vivids, and carefree haircuts. The creative vision, high quality, and longevity of the style is what sets my work apart from other artists.

The updos are seamlessly architected to last the entirety of a wedding day alongside clean, glowing makeup that is carefully set with a detailed series of skin care steps. Color transformations speak volumes and as a Redken Certified Colorist, I thrive on the challenge of a full on color correction. Color theory, chemistry, and artistry bleed into everything I do.

But above all, I think there is a glimmer of high fashion in all of my work due to my time spent working in the fashion world. I love pulling runway trends and applying that to an everyday client in a way that fits their style.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
For the future, I am planning on expanding my beauty business to be fully behind the chair as an in salon artist along with focusing in even more on bridal work. I love the excitement I get to experience with my clients as I get to evolve their style over time and recreating their look as their life changes. Whether it be a wedding day or an extreme hardship, sharing those pivotal moments with my clients means everything to me. This is why my love for people is truly driving the changes I am implementing in 2017 for Jessica Z Beauty.

My ultimate dream one day in the far-off future is to own my own creative studio where I can combine all my artistic passions with my love for people and coffee!
