Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Warburton.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was in the military for 8 years until I received a diagnosis of a late-stage ovarian cancer. During surgery, I flatlined and stopped breathing at different points. I couldn’t work and after chemotherapy had to find another path. I chose hair as it was a way I could give back and help other women who experienced the same self-esteem issues that I experienced.
Cancer takes a huge emotional toll on not only the patient but their family as well and I saw how the beauty industry could help alleviate that some. I found a salon I wanted to start in after school and worked towards that goal. Now I have a private salon suite that I run and work out of with one other person.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Before I got on at the salon I was at, I was living below poverty level. When you have very little money, getting on your feet can be really difficult. I also deal with permanent nerve damage from chemotherapy. Finding good mentors was huge on my road to success.
I also made sure to invest back into myself with continuing education once I could do so. I didn’t need easy, I just needed possible. There’s always a path, sometimes that path may need to be cleaned up a bit to travel down it. For me, that path was saving and I even did a gofundme to help with continuing education early in my career.
Please tell us about Hairhunter.
I specialize in fashion hair color (think Rainbows) and balayage. I’m really proud of how my personality shows through a lot of my work and that I have been lucky enough to give back. I firmly believe in staying true to myself which means clients and companies I work with know they will get exactly what they see. Having a military background has only strengthened my drive and integrity.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I wouldn’t want anything different. This path built me and I really have come to love who I am. I want to be able to look back and see that my stairway to success was built with beautiful marble stone and not the bones of those I stepped on to get where I am. I like knowing that I’m doing it myself with some good old-fashioned elbow grease.
