Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Serra.
Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a mother to a beautiful little girl & furry puppy and wife to a pretty awesome man. I’m native to California but love to explore this great big world and see all the beauty it has to offer. I started my cosmetic journey 10 years ago… Ekkk I’m getting old! I’ve trained under some of the most influential artist of my time. From working as a product specialist for MAC to working on set with some great photographers, I’ve been truly inspired by so many creative minds. After having my daughter, I knew I wanted to put her first & not work every holiday or miss precious moments with her. I also realized I wanted more of a purpose with my creative artistry, I wanted to help people! It was always a dream of mine to do something with permanent cosmetics, but to be honest growing up seeing how unnatural it looked I was always a bit hesitant. When I saw Microblading & even the different styles of cosmetic tattooing and how natural, gorgeous and real it looked I knew I wanted to do it! So I did & I dove into it head first. I attended Susan Church Permanent Cosmetics education and received my Certificates in Permanent Cosmetics, Microblading & Collagen Rejuvenation Therapy. With my current knowledge of artistry, beauty, face/ brow shapes & color theory I just felt like everything has prepared me for this amazing new career journey.
The fact that I can help people with alopecia, chemo patients who have lost hair, people with surgery scars, burns, previously permanent cosmetics gone wrong, overplucked 80’s girl eyebrows (like myself) Areola reconstruction the list truly goes on, it fired my soul! So here I am and here is my little business Brows by J. Serra. I’m truly grateful for all the love & support I’ve received with all my work and I can’t wait to continue down this amazing journey!!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I first started I had over 12 years’ experience in the makeup world so transitioning into the cosmetic tattooing works was a challenging. I had to start all over, build my business & name again. Not to mention I’m my own worst critic. So I’m always pushing myself, critiquing my work and making sure my work is the best I can be & do.
Brows by J. Serra – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a Cosmetic tattoo artist and I specialize in microblading brows /3-D brows. I find what sets me apart is my years of cosmetic experience. Knowing color theory, facial structures and truly listening to my clients & knowing what they want. I want what’s best for my client not what I think is best. I think that that’s very important in this industry that you listen to your clients wants and needs with giving your professional expertise and opinion without being pushy. Brows are a style and a trend everybody wants something different and so that’s what I try to provide for my client
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is doing something that you’re passionate about, love and striving to be the best at. Hustling when times are hard and times are easy. When you set goals and achieve those goals.
