Meet Jessica Quezada of GROOVY PAWS in STUDIO CITY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Quezada.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up around farm animals in Northern, CA. My grandfather had a small farm full of chickens, horses, cows, billy-goats, geese, pigs, cats, and many Dogs. I loved learning from my Grandpa (who was a professional horse trainer) and observing his connection with all the animals. I have always been fascinated by how animals can communicate and express emotions without using words.

In 2007, I moved to Los Angeles to work in the Music & Entertainment industry while walking dogs and pet-sitting on the weekends. In my twenties, I remember telling myself. “One day I will own my own business with a purpose,” I just didn’t know what that business was.

I honestly, didn’t enjoy working in the Music & Entertainment Industry. It was draining and too overwhelming. I quit my job, and from that moment on. I knew my true purpose in life. It was in front of me the whole time. I realized how much I LOVED being around Dogs and Nature that I turned it into a full-time gig. In 2015 Groovy Paws was Born!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh my! It’s definitely been a learning curve in starting and owning my own business from getting new clients, business license, permits, insurance, boarding agreements, and dog training courses.

Everyday has its challenges. That’s with every business. Some folks think dog walking and training dogs is easy to do. There is so much more than just walking dogs & basic dog training. Every dog has its own unique personality and traits. I learn something new everyday.

While every dog is under my care, comes great responsibility, pawsitive training reinforcement, on and off leash socialization, daily doggie adventures, tons of fun exercise and of course capturing the perfect pictures, videos to post on social media and share with my clients. It warms my heart everytime my clients let me know how much they love seeing their pup(s) be full of smiles, exhausted and happy. Haha, it’s the best!

Through all the ups and downs, I am reminded everyday why I chose this path. Dogs are truly amazing in every way. I absolutely love working and connecting with the dogs. They each hold a special place in my heart. I’m forever grateful for this journey.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about GROOVY PAWS – what should we know?

Dog Training can be started at any age, the sooner the better. You can start simple training with your puppy as soon as he/she has settled into his/her new home. Older dogs are also receptive to training, although some may be less keen or less quick to learn that a younger dog.

Done properly, training will be fun, both for you and your dog, as well as exercising his/her brain and reinforcing the pawsitive relationship between you. Private Lessons in your home or Board & Train are a wonderful way to train your pet, especially when the time is at a premium for busy owners.
