Meet Jessica Langer of SISTERWIFE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Langer.

Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always dreamt of owning a shop of my own. I was an actor and teacher in New York and LA for many years and felt my new calling (after having children) was to create a different type of collaborative space where women could play dress up and connect.

Then, in 2016, when our political climate was so volatile and male-dominated, I felt it was necessary to create a space where women could share clothes, make money, build community and feel beautiful. And with that, SISTERWIFE was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
With the support of my husband and my loving, now 6-year-old twins, we opened our doors in September 2017.

Then, in December, my father tragically died, and my life was turned upside down. My father was my biggest fan and source of support. I didn’t think I could continue running the shop while dealing with the death of my dad all at the same time.

What ended up happening is that the store became a place of healing for me and the community – our consignors showered me with love and my belief in the shop, and its purpose came into focus. My father’s death helped me learn not to sweat the small stuff — we would make it work, figure it out and do just fine.

Plus, having an incredible team helped tremendously. Stephanie Pia (my in-store manager extraordinaire) was/is my rock — she kept SISTERWIFE alive when I couldn’t. You should visit the shop just to see her amazing outfits! They are beyond.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with SISTERWIFE – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a consignment shop, first and foremost. We are known for our curated, beautiful and inspired designer and vintage clothes. Our inventory is always colorful, wild and pushes the envelope.

Our pieces are elevated, one-of-a-kind and occasion-centric. If you are going to an event where you want to be remembered, you come to us. We are kind, never pretentious, and always inviting. We believe in connection over sales. That is most important to us.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity in our city — I love that we are all in this together. And the food in LA is the best.

I have access to incredible Persian, Turkish, Thai, Mexican, Korean, Japanese, Armenian, Italian and Polish (to name a few) foods whenever I want. We are so lucky!

My biggest complaint is the traffic… isn’t that everyone’s complaint?
