Meet Jessica Frump of Soboba Flight Park in San Jacinto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Frump.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
If you’ve ever dreamt of flying high above a city or even a desolate landscape, soaring with birds while taking in a beautiful view, Soboba Flight Park can show you how. Soboba Flight Park is a world class paragliding and speed flying destination that was established and is owned and operated by pilots with a passion for flying.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Soboba Flight Park has not always been as accommodating; it has taken a lot of time and energy from dedicated pilots to make the site what it is today. The quad and hiking trails up the mountain take an enormous amount of care to maintain. Those same dedicated pilots that made the site so accessible are still visiting Soboba regularly throughout every year to fly.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
If you are looking to learn paragliding or speedflying, Soboba will accommodate all of your aspirations. It is a 2200′ South-facing mountain located in sunny Southern California that assures 320+ flyable days per year. Soaring flights can last many hours on a regular basis, even for beginner pilots. You can show up with zero experience, set up a tent (if camping is your thing), and focus solely on becoming a skilled pilot. There’s an abundance of accommodations nearby, and the staff at Soboba are happy to help point you in the right direction for hotels, restaurants, and shopping in the area.

Soboba Flight Park instructors are patient with all of their students, and take extra care to ensure students get the most out of their experience. A typical training session goes from 8 AM to sunset. A lot of students are surprised to hear this, as other schools typically offer training blocks of a few hours. We believe in maximize consecutive training time for the best retention. It’s easy to get five or more high altitude flights in a day at Soboba. This is why we are able to take new students from absolute beginners to rated pilots in such a short time. If you’ve ever delved into sports like scuba diving or martial arts, you understand how rewarding it is to demonstrate you’re knowledgeable and skilled enough to earn a rating. Sports like skiing and climbing also have a way of showing progression with the various grades of terrain.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in the greater Los Angeles area and was always very active. My brother and I played ice hockey and rode dirt bikes year-round, and went snowboarding most winters. My parents are so fun and have always been supportive of whatever sports/hobbies we were interested in trying, and I think that really helped with being willing and excited about trying new things as I got older. I started skydiving three years ago and then a climbing buddy told me about another way I could fly, and recommended Soboba. Since then, flying has been my passion.
